E92 Whining sound within cabin

hi guys,

couldn't find anything that matches my question on the threads, so am posting this new.

i just got my new E92 about a month ago everthing's stock : soo far. , my buddy whilst sitting in the car said there's a whining pitch everytime i press the accelerator. and the pitching sound increases if i accelerate hard!!!. thought it's a cross wire or something with the radios but it's there even with the radios off!!!:furious:

anyone got an answer or solution? wanted to arm myself before going to pml to complain. least they can't bulls@#$ me when i have some kinda 'ammo'

thanks

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

I too have this kind of whining. Seems to come from the left side. Seems RPM related as I can hear it when accelerating/decelerating with RPM is around 1500. Otherwise, I dun really hear it and it is not very loud though. Read the bimmerfest and e90post forums and seems like this is another common issue. If anyone has this and have gotten it fixed, kindly tell the rest what did PML do :) My ride is a month's old E90 320i. I reported this to PML before but the SA who heard it said this is normal and cause by the wheel, but I doubt it.

Im not married..
but i get that too. VERY often.

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

ya i am, unfortunately the 'on-board prompter and navigator' even couldn't drown the whining ;p

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

To add information to this, I hear it when the RPM is around 1500 and the car is doing 60km/h. Not sure if anything to do with the belt tensioner and/or alternator. May bring it in for a check when I have time to run around. Any folks any idea on this? I also get loud idling (not the ticking type) which maybe related but at times, it is silk as butter.

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Dunno if it's the same thing i experienced, but have you tried driving with the aircon turned off?

i noticed a whining sound in my car too. sounded just like a vtec engine, whining gets louder on revs, goes down when i ease off the pedal. disappeared when the aircon was off.

Culprit was the aircon compressor.

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Well, dunno if mine is applicable. But my e92 325 has a whine when i rev above 6000 RPM. No other whining at all at other RPMs whether hard acceleration or not. With aircon on or off/radio on or off also no difference. I think it is the air intake. Cheers. My whine is sorta like air whistling past that kind. Hence my conclusion.

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

thanks for the precious feedback.
so i guess honestly there's about next to nothing that can be done.
switched off ac. switched off audio. switched off wife, still the whining. i guess it's gonna be there, like taxes and ....

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

If its really bothering you go PML or BVO and ask them to check:) If its not bothering you then just enjoy the car

Care to share tips with your married brothers on how to switch off wife?

The incessant whining in my car gets close to unbearable at times.

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Tsk tsk tsk...

Could this be wind noise? As in, from the wing mirrors?

Lol. Lucky I'm not married

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

I had the same problem with the whining. started around 4000km mileage. Later on it became worse.
long story short i went to PML..

turned out the problem was due to the differential. The SA did not elaborate. but the whining is b/c the differential is not lubed or something. My differential was ordered and replaced. no more whining. now at 8000km dunno is b/c less friction or what car is smoother and FC much better. used to be 8 something now can hit 9plus.

so guys take note. maybe complain to ur SA see what they say. suggest is the differential problem?

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Re: E92 Whining sound within cabin

Anyone have any experience on rattling noise on dashboard? Do you think it is a good idea to get PML to remove dashborad, find and ratify the noise or just tolerate it? My concern is after removal of dashboard, it will cause more noise. Appreaciate feedback. Thamks.
