i would have thought that the 335i would be lighter than the M3.
iirc, the rwhp figures published in that article are about the same as the M3's based on the dynocharts available on e46fanatics... which is at the end of the day, all that matters when comparing horsepower figures.
i suspect gearing must have affected the 1/4 mile times and century sprint of the 335i wrt the M3 though. anyone has gear ratios on hand to compare?
lastly, TripleM, from what i've read on e46fanatics, it's inevitable that the new generation of coupes will be faster than your beloved M la... like how the E46 330 zhp could challenge the e36 M3... but at least the E46M3 looks much much better. especially yours!
