E90 need wheel alignment?

Was having lunch with a buddy and he was telling me his car's FC wasnt very good for a while. Then he went to have his wheel aligned n FC improved. His car is a six month old LXXXX :silenced:

My E90 320i is drinking 12.7L/100km according to the readings. Is this normal after 3 months in my hands or should it go for a check-up to see if it is having bow-legs ?

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

I wld only go for alignment if:

(i) my car is not driving straight i.e. veering left or right on most roads for no rhyme or reason;

(ii) I have juz modified my car e.g. changed to new suspension system, or adjusted height of existing suspension system;

(iii) car involved in accident, hit a kerb hard etc.

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

Wah your FC quite high. I got 18" and I not very light footed, ie i go off the light usually reach about 3500 to 4000 before change to 2nd. I still get about 10.5-10.8L per 100km. Maybe your drive is exclusively urban in town, then should be ok. If you spend considerabe time on expressway, then something may be wrong.

I got 16' leh, but RF tyres. Maybe its my driving routine hor? This is how a typical week goes for me.
Mon to Fri : as a school-bus, drive my E90 and drop my kid off at school in the neighbour hood and back home. Then I drive out of my estate in AMK and travel via CTE to my office. As you know, the rush hour traffic along CTE is as good as start/stop driving. Then the rest of the day my SCO uses the car and may run a few errants around the AMK GRC area currently under the PAP. Nights are usually a time where I use the tiptronic or S mode around quiet roads for some 15/20 minutes if I cant sleep and the stupid programmes on SCV is boring.

Weekend: I would say more highway driving but not so much more, however the speed on highways do go up vs weekdays, esp when I see another speeding E90 zooming pass me :screwedu:

So after talking all this rooster, is 12.7 L/100km reasonable or too much:confused: The consolation I had is my old HIA-DEE, the Fantastic3, also clocks the same FC wor :whythis: BTW thanks for the E90 meet-up, my FC drop a mere 0.2L and is reading 12.5L/100 km now

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

maybe ur wife hoot the car more than u when u r in the office? her driving habits more aggressive than u?

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

hmmnn... i am thinking a good way to compare notes is also to check what is the average speed that your car is clocking?? this should reflect whether u are driving mostly in start-stop traffic or expressways.

mine : FC is 8.1 km/L (or translated to 12.3L/100 km, sorry not used to this L/100km thingy..). Average speed reading is 33 km/h.

what's your average speed?

hmm, I need to check by I think my speed is something definitely below 30km/h averegae as the on board PC shows. If thats the case that means I have been driving too slow?

damn....BENG is wrong again....time to change my driving attitude [ and avartar profile as well ]...

anyway, kam sia for the heads up.

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

i think u guys shud ignore the reading on the car..instead do it using the tried n tested methos at the pumps. T6 told me that some time back...the reading on the car is not accurate at all.

I see u still remember. Yah, I prefer the manual method of calculation coz the electronic reading in a BMW is simply not accurate. By manual method, I mean I simply top up to full tank, then drive till petrol needle drop to 15litre mark, at that time, jot down how many km you have clocked, then pump tank till full again, jot how many litres of petrol pumped, reset odometer, then drive till 15 litre mark and jot down mileage again. If you driving style has been similar, u shd get a fairly consistent reading, be they km/litre or litre/100km.:)

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

Wah ABD, your quite terok leh.... but I think can summarised into 2 points:
(1) your usual route sounds more like city driving (CTE is horrible), city driving is usually high consumption.
(2) use the manual calculation method and don't rely on the trip computer.

BTW, I am getting 7.9L/100km.... and wack quite often somemore

wahh.......can we swap car keys ? Maybe my car really kena hantu

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

Forgot to add... about 70% on highway and 30% City and its a manual E90 320i
Paiseh

Re: E90 need wheel alignment?

Agree with T6, best to use manual calculation. The OBC can be quite "lenient" in it's calculations.

The tank capacity for the E46/E90 should be 63 litres (55 litres + 8 litres reserve). When the low fuel light comes on (7/8 mark), it usually means you've used up ~55 litres (Check with your petrol receipt to get the exact figure). Do you usual divisions and you should be able to derive the KM travelled / litre of fuel (or vice versa).

I feel that the type of traffic affects consumption alot more than the style of driving. E.g. 90% expressway, 10% Urban (heavy footed), versus 70% expressway, 30% urban (light footed). Even if you are heavy footed, there's only so many bursts of acceleration you can maintain on local roads. kekeke.

Cheers.

Wah thats abt 12.7 km /litre compared to my 8km/lit. on the E90 320 ,abt 60 %highway and 40% city driving:evil: . And I thot my colleague driving a 1.6 Ford focus getting 12km/lit was good.
