hi all

was just wondering what is the general lifespan of an E90 gearbox?

am driving a 2006 e90 323i with about 137k millage on it so far...

has any bros here driven your BMW e90 past the 150,000km mark or even 200,000km without any gearbox issues ?

*BUMP!* Interested to find out too.... Mine's approaching 100k very soon....

Re: E90 Gearbox Lifespan

based on many complaints here, it seems like gearbox start to give way (not entirely die but problem rises) between 100k to 120k milleage and some unlucky ones gearbox up lorry < 100k

problem big and small seems highly likely and "without any gearbox issues" seems highly unlikely

My 07 E90 320i had past 150,000 KM and catching 200,000KM after 4 1/2 yrs. *touch wood* the gearbox still shifting fine. very smooth shifting up and down on M'sia north south especially that stretch pass Tuas 2nd Link.

I don't know what is the lifespan of the gearbox but there are other parts link or related to the gearbox that might failed due to tear and wear.

don't worry so much, just drive it hard when you can. feel the JOY.

Re: E90 Gearbox Lifespan

hi guys thanks for the re assurance !

great to know that your beemer is reaching its 200k mark and still going strong!!

by the way, did you change your ATF fluid & filter?

cheers!

Re: E90 Gearbox Lifespan

In old days, is common to hear that the gearbox fail. This is becos owner save in ATF and advise from PML that the AFT is for lifetime use and no changing is require.(Of cos they'll say that, otherwise who will replace gearbox and where they can generate more revenue)
These days, many change ATF at around 60k to 80k mark together with the filter and the moving parts in the GB are lubricated properly hence life span prolong.
Can nv believe in not changing any lubricating fluid in your car. (All moving parts that are made for propulsion are build to last with proper care)

True, true... "Lifetime" fluids are marketing rubbish... More $$$ for the manufacturer...
