E90 Coolant Flush Issue

Hi all,

Needed some expert advice on my predicament.

Since I am Travelling up north for a family vacation, I had decided to take the preventive maintenance of doing a coolant flush.

Went to one of the site sponsor's workshop last Saturday. I had observed the following:

1) During the coolant top up, the Mechanic did not release the bleed screw. Asked the mechanic but he mentioned procedures differs between workshops.

2) The engine was turned on (heater was turned on at the same time) with the coolant cap still open.

3) As the engine was heated up, the coolant starts to overspill (waste of new coolant).

4) Worst part, my car suddenly stalled. Fault code traced to anxilliary water pump. Fault cannot be cleared but engine was able to restart.

5) Was advised to replaced the anxilliary pump. Meanwhile, the Mechanic assured I can drive home safely. And coolant loss is not as much (which I really doubt).

6) Reached home safely. Next morning check the coolant, I had to TOP up water almost 2 litres.

Am really pissed that I do not have any coolant related issues prior to this (hoses, thermostats and pumps replaced just 5 months ago). Just wondering how just a simple coolant change leads to such a complicated issue.

Am trying this workshop as it is nearer my home and noticed good reviews of it.

Can anyone shed any opinion on this? Is the procedure correct in the first place? Not sure if the anxilliary pump failure is related to improper procedures.

Now really have to bite the bullet to change the anxilliary pump. Am a noob and I really just need any experts advise.

As you can see, am having sleepless night already.

Re: E90 Coolant Flush Issue

The anxilliary pump is for the Rest function (button labeled Rest) on your aircon control. And that function is for heating up your cabin during winter when the engine is off (provided your coolant has heat like after a drive).

Other than the Rest function, that pump has got no other use.

Since we have no winter here and assuming I won't press the heating function at all. Is it necessary to change in the first place?

If it's not leaking ... Personally would leave it alone.

If you can specifically talk about mechanic not adjusting the bleeding screw and turn on the engine with the heater on and the cap open, shows you are not a noob.

If you want just name the workshop instead of going one big round ...

You can go to anyworkshop you like ... no body force you with a knife to go to sponsored workshops.

Also if you see something wrong done to your car, would you stop the mechanic or just see him destroy your car ?

Simple advise just change if spoil ... no spoil but do preventive measure also better ...
