Sorry for being so Loh-Soh today. This is my 3rd question for today, bcos my SIM-CHENG Ho ! Thanks to England and Ecuador last night.

So if I see any ...I repeat any...18" rims I like in any shop. Can I buy it and get it fitted with RF tyres like the continental brand on our stock 16" ? Will the tyre shops know how to fit the RF sensors properly so I wont kena "warranty void'?

Kam sia cock we...hip hip hurray...I love this World Cup :woowooo:

Re: E90 - any rims can fit Run Flat tyres?

i think the runflat sensors work by detecting a change in your rolling diameter so there won't be any RF sensors to install..... just reset your runflat indicator after you've changed your tires.

i think most rims can fit runflats although BMW claims that you need special runflat rims to accomodate RF tires.

Re: E90 - any rims can fit Run Flat tyres?

There are no sensor attached to RF tyres, regardless of 16" or 18"

The sensor is attached on the brakes which is similiar as the ABS, which calculates the tyre rotation. The alarm trigger when the rotation difference threshold is hit.

Also, u cannot pick any rims and put in the RF tyres. RF tyres need very strong rims due to their rigid sidewall. Normal rims may not take the load, especially during a deflated run.

Agreed with piggy
Ah beng driver, I'd be very cautious to slap RFT on after mkt rims. Not that there isnt any but no one will really assure you that this X brand can do the job. U dare to try?

The route is normally like this, either :

U avoid using RFT forever and change to regular tires on your existing rims
or
U continue using RFT and your existing rims.
or
U change all.....Those who hate RFT will go with the 1st choice mostly.

Most bmw rims for current model cars have bloody strong n heavy rims that can cope with RFT situation. The same cannot be said bout M cars coz emphasis is given on performance rather than convenience.

Kam sia cock we ...for sharing your knowlegde and advise on RFTs and hope you prosper from tonight's world cup bets. Now I am smarter liao.

The reason why I ask, is because when the day comes that the threads on my current tyres are almost BOTAK, and its time to get new RFT tyres, I may consider changing all [ rims + tyres ]. So looks like the BMW rims is the safest choice. MMmm, didnt know the stock rims are heavy, all this while I thought they are what I often heard as LIGHT ALLOY RIMS.

Still like RFTs, not sure why people hate it, the fact that one can drive on after a tyre puncture is a SHIOK feeling. The very same reason how I managed to convince the SCO we shld get the E90 instead of LXXXX :silenced:

Re: E90 - any rims can fit Run Flat tyres?

but aren't sites like tirerack.com offering rims/tire packages with runflats on aftermarket rims?
