E90/92 tyre sizes

I had look at the label on my b pillar of my 320i and noticed the reccommended width spec for 18 and 19 inch tyres are 225 and 255 only for these 2 sizes. However, I noticed for 19s after market tyres/rims, many of you slap on 235/265. According to PML technie this is out of spec.

I am not sure about E92 as I dont have the car. Is it also like e90? If yes then why is everyone adding width unnecessarily to their tyres:confused:

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

Cause 19s in 225/255 looks weird. Plus, addtional grip is needed on the rears if you Procede......

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

u guys forgot to address the widths of the rims
if 8 n 9 Js, 225 255 are perfect

so the key to life is
know ur rims width and then slap on the correct or rather optimal tire sizes

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

But who's gonna run 19x9 at the rear on the 335? Most are 19x9.5 at least...... hence 255 is sub-optimal.

And if you go 265 at the rear, front cannot be 225.

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

well, apart from aftmkt rims which are mostly 8.5 n 9.5Js, there are 8 n 9 Js too...
and so u know , BMW OEM wheels for 3series are mostly 8 n 9 for 19in hence 225 n 255 their optimal reco.

Having said that 8 n 9 can take 235 265 as well, no issues

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

If u ask me, I'd go with 9 and 9.5 if I were to do it all over again.

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

many of us are reasonably well informed modders but for newbies
if u just mention 235/245 265/275 on 19in, it's not meaningful enough unless u mention the corresponding size of the rim spec.

Not everyone is into staggering, so wot if the newbie buys 19in with +35 offset all round with 8.5 J ? He/she is then led to think that 235/245 265/275 shud fit fine and that is clearly wrong.

On the E46 or E92?

On E46 M3 , E90/E92 335, E90/E92 M3
If I have 5 or 6er, I'd go with 9 n 10 Js.....M5 has 8.5 / 9.5 FYI

It's not a want, just a need from a much better driving dynamics point of view

Basically, I'd prefer a wider front by 0.5 more..massively reducing the understeering of the car ( of coz u fit 255 tires at least at the front ). When I ordered my RE30...I wanted to change the front to 9J from 8.5 but the rim came earlier than expected...duh

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

And the rear?

Re: E90/92 tyre sizes

After one big round, you sort of answered Beng's question.......

hak! Yes I know wider tyres vs wider rim thinggy. BMW cant be so wrong right? Lets say an e90 330i, if they said 225/255, surely that will suffice. Of cos if u proceed a 335i, which brings it into the new M3 territory for power, then the OEM recco of 225/255(if it was) may not be sufficient? But wait, I think the new M3 comes std with 18s on 225/255 tio bo?

Pak Jack as always is great when it comes to this type of discusso!

Coz I like rubber

And yes the 18in OEM M3s come with 225 255, same as in E46 Model.
Even the 19in of the E46 Model came with 225 255 on 8 / 9.5Js wheels respectively

But the new M3 with 19in shud come with 235 236 on 8.5 / 9.5 Js respectively
