E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

All advise appreciated on this.

I love my 320i but I feel the car being so underpower especially when I turn a bend and the road is upsloping. Totally frustrating. The car is an '06 with 45000 km on it. Besides upgrading to a 325 or 335, what are my options?

Will a Superchip upgrade help? Anything else I can do to improve the torque and power?

Thank you folks and have a great weekend.

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

use 17/18 inch light wheel at 8kg
use light tyres like ps2/f1
ignition upgrade (r2d) + nology plugs (boss)
remap ecu with k&n/bmc air filter (boss)

Hi stealthpilot,

i think the only way is to change to at least a 325i (320i: 156hp 200nm vs 325i: 218hp 250nm plus BMS Pbox it shld be better).....by the way care to share which bend???
* handling of the car is important too......power is nothing without control...

Alternatively will be like what wt_know bro's recomendation......

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

if you want slight improvement (butt feel), mods can help.
even ecu remap gives you +15bhp only and total is still below 150bhp/200Nm at dyno for E90 320.
if you want significant and measurable improvement, change car.
don't waste time & money going the wrong way.

Didn't you test drive the car before you bought it? You knew well the bhp rating of the car right? Go do an ECU remap and pay around 1K.

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

Yes, i agree. Leave the problem,.change car.
I had the same issue w power too...after i 'accidentally' drove my frens car.
I had no much problem w my car initially. In fact had powerbox installed in my 523....but when i drove my fren's 525 w just sprintbooster...
I was like woah! Got difference lei! :(

So now i just restrict myself to aesthetic mods...
Resisting the temptation to change exos etc....

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

Some people simply bought the most basic model 320i just for the "BMW" emblem.

At a later stage, they tend to regret for not thinking long term, getting something with more power and with performance.

change ur mind set.
is okay to go up the slope slowly.

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

If you can, go for 335i. Initially I wanted 320i but felt is is underpowered, then considered 325i but finally got a 335i due to colour availability and better equipment level. Thereafter, no regret. Once you own one, most other cars will pale in comparison.

agreed!

i never bother much about performance but after driving my n54....its hard for me to consider other drives with lower performance

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

Actually one must learn to be complacent.. But I must admit 320i is underpower. You shouldn't buy it just because it's a BMW.

325i is a very decent car already. One must be down to earth and not go beyond the limits.

If you keep comparing here and there, how about comparison with a ferrari or lamborghini? :)

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

After driving E36 325 for a wk eon ago, i have decided that nothing less than 6 pot.

Re: E90 320i so underpower.. HELP!

My two cent - forget about the quest for power and torque given the limitations of the engine block. Mods like trottle signal ampliers are akin to looking at your organ via the magnifier glass - it looks and feels better, but does not solve the fundamental issue. I went thru a 318 sedan and a 318 cabrio to learn this part.

Does it mean you remain depressed?

No.

Small can be hard. Ang mor big but soft. So what you can do, is perhaps focus on handling. Yes, car is underpowered, but it does not take out the enjoyment if you focus on enhancing handling, which perhaps yield more than performance mods.
