Hey folks,

Quick question - what bulbs are used in the headlights of an E90 320i (non Xenon)? Am thinking of getting them changed.

Cheers!

You can buy the H7 type 55W halogen.

Any bros here know where to get PIAA Spark 8000 bulbs at a price lower than Autobacs ($128 per pair)?

I ended up getting the Phillips 4300k H7s from Autobacs, very bright, very white (not blue) and they are on 10% off so they are about $73 a pair, including matching 5w park lamp bulbs. Very happy with them!

The headlight certainly looks white. I read a lot about the PIAA Spark 8000 and understand that it is the closest headlight bulb to HID. It contains Xenon gas and is totally white in colour. The best thing is it is extremely bright too. Unfortunately, Autobacs told me that it is not LTA compliant.

Did you install the bulbs yourself?

To be honest, anything above 6000k will look blue. Have a look here : HID color chart | Xenon colour chart

Unless what you're after is the blue look, I don't think you should go for the 8000, they would definitely be non-LTA friendly. I went for 4300k Crystal vision, still has a slight yellow tinge in order to be still LTA friendly, and yet white enough not to look like a taxi/lorry headlights hehe :D

Yup, I did the installation myself, it's quite straightforward, shouldn't take more than 10mins if you know what you're doing. Just make sure you do it in a well-lit area, I did mine in the Autobacs carpark at 730pm, too damn dark and too damn hot! :)

Re: E90 320i headlight bulbs

I can understand why LTA would not approve HID lights to be retrofitted on coventional halogen headlamps. However, I cannot understand why LTA approves HID headlamps to have white colour of 8000K but not halogen bulbs with 8000K.

Any bros here can enlighten?

I'm not entirely sure on this, but to the best of my knowledge, factory fitted HID headlamps usually fall between the 4000-5000k range.

Not LTA compliant nevermind. Just change before you go for inspection.

TP would still slap a fine for cars (think is $70) fitted with white bulbs when spotted on the road.

Our E90 headlight bulbs is damed difficult to fit as compared to those Jap cars. I tried installing it myself but the wire catch fell into the inner side of the bumper :(
