Hey guys, as now's a good time to sell my 318i for either a tiny profit or I can even break even, I'm thinking about upgrading. Considering (second hand only) a 730i/730Li, 523i, 525i or even E200 :oooops:. So I wanna know about the FC for the cars. Hope someone who owns one of the cars can tell me the FC of them. Thanks in advance! :)

ur looking at a realistic 8 to 8.5km/L tops. driving style plays a part as well

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

5 series. 7 will likely be lower. i was struggling to even get 9km/L on my 325

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

okay thanks. maybe i'll scout for more cars then. FC wise, the E200 should do better than the 5s right?

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

i doubt it. quite frankly continental cars around this capacity will range the same, unles its a jap car.

but why would u be bothered about fuel consumption if ur gonna drive a 5 or 7 series? just enjoy the ride man.

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

well, it's gonna be my wife's car as i already drive an mx5 myself so yeah, she is the decision maker on the car. whooops. hahahaa.

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

I'm getting about 11 on my 525i with 19 inch. But then, I am 70% highway and 30% urban. I am not a heavy footer, so it really depends on how heavy your foot is :D

both ride also quite heavy so FC almost same same..........but do remember that E200 (1.8L 184hp n 250nm) is a 4 cyc with SC while 523i (2.5L, 190hp and 230nm) is a 6pot (shiok)...........

cheers

get the 730i will be the most value for money. but make sure its new facelift ie after 05 jul. but the best spec will be after mid sep 06.

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

sometimes i felt so stupid to post reply inside such thread but sometimes I feel I shld give them some benefit of doubt on FC..
a) when u so call upgrade to 5series or even E200 OR 7series, FC shld be the last thing on yr mind, think abt yourself, whom had achieve what many are hoping to achieve..a milestone for many, Personal Target. Enjoy it with every second of it, you deserve it! But payback some to charity too!
technically its abt what? 3~4km/litre difference? over ave usage of , like in my case, pumps ave 65l x 4.5wks ~=300litres of petrol per mth. If 520/320/E200 claims 11km/l, that means 3km better than my current 525 whiuch clocks 8km/l (maybe u can say its a 30% urban)
So 300l x 3km more = 900km more per month. Means at 11km per litre FC = $150 savings/mth!! wow ... is it alot? Nah!!! not enough to buy any mod or just a couple rounds of beer, I guess?
at ave 3000km/mth (heavy user)
318 - 12km/l?
520 - 11km/l?
523 - 12km/l??? I doubt so...
525 - 8km/l max 9km/l unless u always travel along NS Hwy, maybe can clock 12km/l?

b) maintenance is alot higher if u buy used car, since u dont know previous owner history on his usage or driving pattern.
but be prepared to set aside $1000/mth; as ins is higher, rd tax is higher, woprkshop bills somehow "higher" as they think u drive 5/7 series mah!!!

so dude, stay cool in yr 318, if u sell n can get profit, keep it if it hurts after what i explain, if it doesnt, go for it!
go for a 5 if u want performance, E200 if u want comfort (hokkien saying "tai-hong")

if u still think abt FC, buy hybrid.

erm,, hybrid must not be lexus hybrid hor, otherwise not much saving

or otherwise, take out rear and passenger seat if not used and discard spare tyre
change to 205/65/16 tire then dun on aircon and travel at 80-100km/h for best effectiveness

this way i think you should get 10km/l on a 520, but i'm getting 7.5km/l from my 523, perhaps my fuel tank's leaking

Wow I thought I'm the only one with real bad FC! I'm getting 7km/l on my 523 consistently for the past 2 years, usually pretty heavy footed. If go long distance sometimes can hit 8.5km/l, but that's pretty rare for me.

A 525 guy I met 2 days ago told me that his full tank never lasts more than 400km before...

Like what JLMC says, already spent so much on the car, might as well enjoy it to your fullest and F the FC. It's damn difficult to enjoy the car if you're constantly monitoring your FC. Life is short!

My 2 cts.

My best FC was 11km/L on one sunday morning from bedok to jurong with light traffic

For the past 2 years my 523 was averaging 8.5-9km/L until i met Dave of ODB
My FC worsen to 7.5-8km/L after he tweaked my ECU
But i am glad he did it cos its performance justify the thirst

Want good FC dun buy BMW, want to buy BMW dun think FC

Re: E65 730i & E60 523i/525i FC?

Popiah,
I have calculated in another thread before, the increase in petrol costs due to a worse FC (say 2km/L worse off) is not very significant.
So I suggest you take your current FC, monthly petrol consumption, etc, and do a calculation. (Take your own numbers because everyone has different driving routes and this impacts the FC number.)
Take the assumption that the FC in your new car drops by 2km/L or 3km/L. Calculate and see if the difference is significant to you or not.

If not, then forget about it. There are many more higher cost items in an old car (like wear and tear) which will make you forget about petrol cost totally, ha ha.

And also hoh, tyre puncture can be costly too.

i just wonder how do u calculate such FC? U start yr journey (press reset button) then end of journey look at meter? If u use yr OBD to work out, then its not accurate at all to claim FC at 11km/l
523/525 r 2.5l car 6 cyl. No way it can achieve beyond 8.5km/l unless u travel NS hwy..
at ave speed 120km/h for 4 hrs. Then yr FC surely improve:lol2: for that matter.

but hey, u had yr tuned up ECU...the leg's action on yr pedal will "estacise" yr heart more than what F*%k C*@k
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yup, i got it from OBD - press before start journey and read it at the end only .
Was so happy and surprised it could do this figure.

I think this is a very way out for average for this car but i believe it was around this figure because i really drove very gently like going up sheares bridge in 6th and letting the rev drop as it goes near the top of the bridge then crawl back speed on the way down.
Very bo liao but fun to try it once ...... hahaha

Pedal feel is still the same meaning i have to depress the same depth to get the car moving but rev goes up a weee bit faster and high end is a little more spirited.
