E60 Xenon Lights experience

On Friday Christmas Eve lunch time, my right Xenon Light stopped working on my 2009 E60 525 XL and a warning "Dipped beam right failure" appeared.

Called BMW Mobile service and they do not carry light bulbs. So had to wait till Monday to go to PML.

At PML, they said it would take half day as they needed to remove the entire headlight to change bulb. BTW, I read the manual and it only needs a simple open and change.....but since under warranty, thought I would leave it to PML.

Left it at PML on Wed and then was told in evening, they needed to keep it overnight as they had to remove front bumper. Also, they were changing both Xenon lights (left and right) cos this was not a common error.

Overall, it took 1.5 days to fix 1 light bulb.....

Is this correct? How long do Xenon lights last cos if i were to change it without warranty, it could have cost me S$2K.

Re: E60 Xenon Lights experience

lol... 2 light bulbs, change ANYWERE will not take more than 15 mins.. $2K is possible IF only u are changing both headlights to brand new ones from Hella, which is not what PML did anyway...

they will call you soon to do re-programming on ECU, and this will take another 0.5 day....

thumbsup:

under warranty, let PML do it better.... since it's so expensive....

xenon lights are too bright . They can blind the incoming cars from other side of the road .

I guess this applies mostly to self installed HID without proper calibrating causing the light to be splashed everywhere. Do you mean these cases?

Most of the default HID that comes from the car Manufacturers are ok.

=)

Re: E60 Xenon Lights experience

agree that aftermarket HID without proper alignment is ought to be shoot.
but, also check out the stock Xenon/HID for SUV like RX, Q5/7, Porsche, etc ... their lights are blinding driver too especially when there is one following right behind. Luckily, my rear mirror is anti-glare

Re: E60 Xenon Lights experience

LTA just came out new regulation to wear sun glasses with/without anti glare rear mirrors....... Heard this to stop blinding. Alternative, don't drive at night and take public transport (govt encouragement) also help to manage COE

Hahahahaha
