E60 problem

Dear E60 owners,

I drove my new E60 for 2 weeks before going for one week vacation with my family.

Upon my return, I started the engine to discover 2 malfunction registered in the Idrive screen. One indicate "Drive Control Error" and the other " Start assistance inactive".

I called up PML and quite swiftly they sent their technician to check on my car. However, I was surprised that PML technician carry no diagnostic tools and think the problem is just an electronic "gliche" or something like that. He mentioned that fault like this is quite common for car like BMW with so many electronic and especially if the car is not start for over a period of time.

What surprise me more it that the technician tried to do a reset of the error log but removing the supply from the car battery. His attempt fail and write a report for me to have my car check and reset at PML service center (schedule to go this only this Friday)

Does anyone have the similar experience like me or maybe I am just the very unlucky new owner.

Would be interested if someone could share his experience

regards,

C C Toh

...never heard of your problem! does the car drive normal?
try posting in the world wide e60.net forum if anyone experience this before!

Re: E60 problem

My 523i is coming to 2 months.

Didn't have the problem you mentioned even though I have an occasion when I left the car for nearly 2 weeks in the car park due to my frequent travel.

Only had a "Passive Restraint Limit Error" or sort of message appearing once and off/on engine once and the error message never appears anymore. Ask the PML mechanic and he said nothing wrong.

Also, my car start to ask for 1L engine top up at 2500km mileage. Checked with PML and again, they said it is fine during the run-in period. Topped up the 1L engine oil and so far so good after 2-3 weeks.

Guess yours sound quite different and better bring back to PML since still got warranty.

Re: E60 problem

Not to sound discouraging, but I thought most modern cars are factory "run-in". There should be minimum run-in required by the owner. Pardon me, I have never owned a BMW from new so what's the run-in mileage? 1L of oil for 2.5k seems on the high side...hopefully it stablises after the run-in.

Mine also new but never had your problems. Only problem is rear window getting stuck but self-fixed after moving it up and down a few times.

wow thats quite surprising. PML should have OBD scanners to read the diagnostic codes and perform resets. you can reset it by pulling out the battery connection, but thats not really what i would expect of a main dealer.

it may not be anything, sometimes with the complexity of ECUs, its not uncommon to get an error code that doesnt actually reflect a problem and just needs to be reset.

Hi E60 owners,

So far, the car drive normal.

My booking is tomorrow and I will have it checked and feedback on PML findings.

Re: E60 problem

Hi All new E60 owners,

Just came back from PML workshop.

They've checked and informed me that my 'ZLC' board for the engine and 'DME' board for the steering have to be Changed. The parts need to order from Germany and it take 2 to 3 weeks. Prior to the change, my ABS system might be ineffective!!!

I heard I am not the first case.

So do expect this to happen.

Re: E60 problem

Let them have the car for the period and INSIST on a loaner. Don't take risks on a faulty car; especially if its under warranty.
