E60 PDC led flashing

Yesterday noticed that PDC led flashing but there are no error code. I thought is a false error code initially. Thinking its will go off by itself but its does not. When i engage to reverse gear the idrive screen did not switch to parking mode. So i check on the pdc module at the rear boot. To my horror the water container that i previous filled up for ns bf run the bottle cap came off and the water seep into the wheel well area. Then i realised the pdc module is screw!! So i plan to get it replace and was quoted around $360 to $400+. To me that is alot of money as I m a bor lui lang.

So i google, this is a common issue due to water seepage. Most of the owner will advise to relocate the pdc module to a higher "ground". But not much infro on repairing, so i give it a shot since i m planning to get it replace, why not rite!!

Ok here is what i did, please note -do it at your own risk!!

1) the pdc is locate at the bottom of the wheel well. Remove the spare tyres etc u will able to see it. It is a "black box" see photo. There are 3 connectors attached to it, just unclip it and the black box is good for "slaughtering"!!

2) there are 2 small catch at the middle of the box (front & back). Pry it open gently, as for my case i broke it. Then using a flat screw driver go around the top edges to push out the pdc module out from the black box.

3) with the pdc board in hand, use a hair dryer to "dry" the moisture. For my case, i used the office hand dryer to dry it :). Warning - do not attempt to stop at one point for too long during the drying process. Chances of damaging the board is likely. Also, do keep a distance between the dryer machine and the pdc board, you wouldnt want to melt the soldering lead.

4) after you are happy with the drying process, i would suggest to use a electronic contact sprayer, apply it at the back of the contact points and connection point area so as to rejuvenate it.

5) reverse the process of dismantling and test it out!! It should works!!

6) next, i have relocate the pdc module on the top side of the wheel well ( using 3m tape to hold it) also wrap over it with plastics bag. This will ensure that in the event of water spillage or "flood" in the wheel well area and the pdc module will not be damaged so as my pocket :).

Orh yes, i can sleep well tonight.
