E60 523i Transmission Failure

Hi all,
My dad's new E60 523i transmission gave way today, I-drive displayed a transmision failure today on the highway. My dad is really disturbed cause the engine just gave out along the highway at 80+km/h . Luckily no accident resulted, since i helped my dad decide to get the 523 over the lexus, i m now doubtful of my judgement. The car has only 600 Kms on the dial and is only 18 days old. this is really troubling...

Hi,

It's not your fault that the car broke down. My BMW in Canada also gave out after 1 week. The transmission failed too. Mine had a broken valve in the transmission and had to be replace.
The least PML can do for you is get you a loaner to tide you through the next few days.

In manufacturing, this is called premature or infant failure.

Better it failed under warranty, than days after warranty. Negotiate with PML for a loaner car while they go sort it out. Make sure they give you a full explanation on why a brand-new transmission on a new production car broke down.
