E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Need some advice please.

For the E53 X5 running 22" rims staggered 9.5" front and 11" rear, what is the correct aspect ratio if I have been advised 275 front and 315 rear?

If anyone knows or can point me to a reliable source.

Standard E53 X5 runs on 255/50/19 front and 285/45/19.

Catalogue says 20" rims 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 (no info on rim width).

Just want to double check.

Many thanks in advance guys.

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

I think front minimum is 285, so the rear 315 suits your 11J perfectly. Aspect ratio can be 35. 30 or 25 depending on tyres. But bear in mind SUV and street cars are different - in needs and in aesthetics. Needs - you need a softer ride, not a harsher ride on SUVs. Aesthetics - low profile tyres on SUV that cannot be lowered, looks funny. I have seen X5 and Cayenne on 22" before, weird looking. So in theory, you should go for 35 aspect ratio, but that subjects to tyre availability. I think for CSC2, you might be able to find 265/30R22 front 295/25R22 in stock, but for 315 rear, I think you will have to indent.

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Hi J S,
If you are running staggered 9.5" front and 11", you have to go for 285-30-22 & 335-25-22 . (28.9" & 28.8") Overall Diam.
Standard E53 X5 runs on 255/50/19 & 285/45/19. (29.1") Overall Diam.
265/30R22 & 295/25/22 (28.3" & 27.8") Worried trans check light on.
It had been taking me weeks to match the above size for a friend who own a X6 which requested for .

Cheers

U dont need rim width for the purpose of this discussion as diameter and tire width are already mentioned, so more relevant for aspect ratio discussion.

For ur case, u can just go with 265/30 295/25 as both fit perfectly on 9.5 / 11 rims

and........enjoy the ride

way too wide for such widths Dave
tires will look be squashed to fit in....

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

The next alternative is 265-35-22 (29.4") & 295-30-22 (29.3") . Which I proposed to him on his 9.5" & 11" rims .
So far only these 2 staggered matching available .

Cheers

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Firstly many thanks to all you guys who responded.

In summary:

- 285/30/22 335/25/22 too wide? (or hard to get sizes?)
- 265/30/22 295/25/22 possible transmission check light problem? but fits perfectly on 9.5" and 11" rims
- 265/35/22 295/30/22 fits 9.5" and 11" rims

Seems like I should be considering the 2nd and 3rd options above.

Is this inconsistent with the BMW catalogue sizes for 20" rims at 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 which is wider than options 2 and 3 above? I believe the 20" rims are no wider than 11".

If my rear rim is 11" wide, this works out to 279.4 mm. What amount of "overspill" should there be for the tyre width? Can it take 315 or 335 tyres?

Thanks again especially Dave for all the effort on the diameter calculations!

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

U shud just run 20" max to begin with for SUV

U dont want to run too low aspect ratio for a car like this tho very unlikely that u will go off road. In fact, u can't go offroad with those low aspect ratio type of set up

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Just did some maths at Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing

These are the results (see picture below).

Dave my numbers were only very slightly off from your initial calculations.

Now to find which brands have them in these sizes.

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Good work JS,
It is hard time now to match the front & rear from the same type of tires.

Cheers

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Finally posting these pics of my E53 running 22" BMW 168 rims running staggered 9.5" 265/35/22 front and 11" 315/30/22 rear ContiCrossContact UHP, lowered on Eibachs, Brembo cross-drilled rotors, custom quad exhausts, flared wheel arches with rear diffuser. The rest is from the Sports package: panoramic roof, BMW DSP sound system with aluminium running boards.

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

brother your tyre is shown yokohaba on bottom picture
and your front tyre look a little narrow
BMW OE front oredi 275 for 20" you run 265 for your 22"
just MHO

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Robert

Front is Yoko, Rear is CCC.

If you have done the maths on the rolling circumference, you'll see from my earlier post that it works out as the most balanced combination, with minimal circumference differential. Quite a challenge ordering these tyre sizes at a reasonable price in SG! Not to mention no stock.

You try and steer your car using anything wider than 275s on the front...

hopeful you dont mixed the yokohama normal tyer and continental run flat tyre.
is quite funny to have mixing tyre like this (2 brands) :chinese: MHO
may be you have you own preference and priority.

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

Robert

Not by choice as I could only get the CCC for the rear. CCC for the front was available in 275s but this was not the size I wanted so had to get the Yokos for the front.

Some websites actually advertise they have CCC in 265s but when you write to them, they inform you there's no stock.

Despite buying numerous rims and tyres for my five BMWs the last 15 years, it was still a learning process once you get around to 22s.

I asked around and was told that so long as the pairs are the same brand and type, you should be fine. In my case, no choice at that point in time.

On a separate note, I'm running my E92 335 on 20" and love them.

Re: E53 X5 22" Tyre Question

seems you are happy with your no choice:dance:
some time you find more choice more headache? at the end dont know which 1 to choose.
Yes is fine to have 2 pairs of same tyre which is on same axle.
