E46 330i brake upgrade.

Hi guys, i require some technical help on the E46 330i brake upgrade for my E36, 1st i would like to know what are the parts required for the front and rear. currently i have a set of calipers(Fr & Rr) + carriers and rotors and for the front i read up it pretty easy to fit the caliper as long as the 330 carriers is there? What about the protection plates or knuckles? Are they necessary? If i need to purchase them locally are they expensive?

For the rear i understand that it will be pretty tricky to install the 320mm rotors due to the difference of the 330 parking brake and E36 320 ones. So if i wanna install the rear as well, what are the parts required then? Do i have to replace the parking brake shoe of my existing one to the 330 ones?

Any confident workshop can perform this mod to intro and roughly how much would e the labour then?

Kindly advise. Thanks.

Re: E46 330i brake upgrade.

you will need to modify both the front and rear carriers to fit your e36. this will involve grinding down part of the carrier.

you will also need a set of e46 330 parking brake shoes to fit the bigger rear rotors. these will also have to be modified by welding on an extra piece of metal.

go and have a chat with rodney from R2D. prices are very reasonable.

cheers!

Hi jin, thanks for the information. Will ck out with them for the labour as i will be replacing my wheel bearings as well since all the necessary brake system will be removed.
Oh btw, for the back protection plates aka dust cover shields do i need to purchase them as well? Any effect on the fitment if i go w/o the shields?

Re: E46 330i brake upgrade.

not necessary to change wheel bearings. unless you have your reasons to do so.

and the plates... different schools of thought... but since the primary purposes is to channel cool air onto the rotors, not necessary too especially if you have a bumper with a brake duct to channel the air into the wheel wells. no effect afaik.

Thanks for enlightening. My current bumper unfortunately does not have a brake duct. hmm..maybe i will check with R2D then. For master brake cylinder isit necessary to change to E36 M3 ones as well?

For all these hassle, why not just upgrade your e36 Front and Rear brakes with some aftermarket brake kit like Brembo or AP?:juggle:

There is always the budget issue.
