E39 520 Depreciation

Hi,

What do you guys think is a reasonable straight line depreciation for a 2.5 years old E39 520 Executive? Would 11.5 sounded fair for both buyer and seller?

:)

Re: E39 520 Depreciation

Yeah .. making plans!! Hoping to sell at reasonable values

Re: E39 520 Depreciation

I think if u are not the first owner and can get $11.5k p.a., it is damn good liao. Most 2001 models seems to be transacted at $10k p.a. if not lower.

Re: E39 520 Depreciation

Ok, noted. I am actually 2nd owner and probably will have to lower my expectation.

Re: E39 520 Depreciation

Just as a reference point, neighbour got a green 2003 Jan E39 525iA, 70000km, pretty stock except for pulleys, full service history with PML for around ~$12k p.a. (seller was 2nd owner, neighbour will be 3rd owner). Bought direct buyer-seller, no middleman. Hope that helps.

When he was looking around, seems the silver and darker colours were asking for more.

Re: E39 520 Depreciation

2 reference points from 2 guys who sold their 525i. A fren sold his June 2001 fully AC kitted with GPS, 2nd owner, mileage 100,000km for $108k 3 mths back. Another fren sold in Dec 2001 fully M5 kitted with no GPS. 2nd owner, mileage 50,000km for $115k 2 months back.

Jus chked wif PML and offered me, min 105k for mine 05/02, 2.2, 61000km with GPS. Think I can get $110 out there.

They only overtrade the 730...not the 330i...and manual apparently 201k :)

Sometimes looking at the price alone will be difficult to judge if it is under or over price, need to know OMV and COE as well as the PARF, that way you know what your depreciation will be. Based on what I gather here, anything between 11K and 10.5K would be a fair price to ask. Of course, condition of the car, mileage, number of transfer and the weather will all have a part to play in the final transacted price .. :)

Re: E39 520 Depreciation

Actually OMV is enough, since COE will become zero at the end of 10 years if you're computing straight line depreciation. PARF can be derived from OMV and year/month the COE was bidded.

You are right :)

However, PARF can be confusing unless one keeps track of the various rate we have today, 80, 65, 55, etc.

The June 2001 525i was sold at yearly depreciation of $11.3k p.a. and the Dec 2001 525i was sold at yearly depreciation of $10.8k p.a. Both were sold to dealers. So if they were to sell to end user, price might have been better. Condo of both cars were good. Hope that helps.
