recently while cruising and stepping to about 4k rpm i felt a shuddering effect....suspect its coming somewhere along the shaft area somewhere to the back of the car.I suspect it could be the clutch slipping?shaft transmission?wat do u guys reckon?Even 2day at 2nd to 3rd gear i could feel the shuddering......arnd 2.5k to 3.5k rpm.Any advice would be appreciated...thnx .

Re: e36 shuddering

Sounds like it's rpm sensitive and not speed... hmm.. can check your engine mounting first. I reckon if it's due to trans problem, you are likely to experience it throughout the rev range. Another area to look at is the prop-shaft becoming "unbalanced". That would be costly.

Re: e36 shuddering

hey,

I exp this on my E46 318 valvetronic as well.
I suspect that it's due to the rain....
try a dry road and it does not happen....
It could be our rear tires losing traction... but with the ASC not picking it up.... :)

Re: e36 shuddering

ur almost rite russo.....sent e car in 2day...jacked it up and saw this mangled kinda threads in between the gearbox and the drive shaft..apparently the mechanic said dat the coupler(reduced to threads) was the culprit. Some sort of a shock absorbing thingy between the gearbox and the drive shaft.
