E36 Rear Passenger Seat Belt

Juz got my E36 from a very nice bro here.. Fetched some clients out but to realise tat the 2 rear Seatbelt cannot be pulled.. it's retracted back, but when pulled it's unable to be extracted out to be fastened... Somehow seems like it is locked in this position.. Any kind soul can help out ?? are there locks to this seat belt ? or the whole assembly has to be changed?

E36 seatbelt must TLC... pull slowly , extremely SLOW it will reach. slow & one time, try not stop & pull again...
Try again if u believe me... i got this problem when i pick up my ride 6+yrs ago... haha

if above don't work, can PM milk15 for re-con set & get it replace 3 points & $150 !

got leh.. juz now try many times.. with different strength somemore.... nvm... tml go try again.. it juz seems locked ... yea.. will pm milk, got some items wanna get from him...

i also , i try so many times tat i want give up & replace, suddenly one day it just work ! before tat alot rear passenger also complain to me can not fastern, till today swee swee never chow chui... maybe not use to new owner... or my belt is virgin when i got it..

i also think so... sayang a bit.. seriously after one fine day it started working the next 6yrs the rear belt never fail my passenger. btw the seat belt is 16yrs old liao still swee swee.... milk15 aka guni is very active her, just PM him.

Paiseh bout tt, would have let you know if I'd known bout the seatbelts.
I usually refuse to fetch rear passengers. On the rare occasions tt I do, none have used the seatbelts:yikess:, so didn't know they cant be pulled out.

On a side note, they were working fine when I'd just gotten the car, but tt's like 3yrs ago..
Neway, if you want company gg down to guni's place, can sms me.
I've got a small list of stuff I may want to 'pre-book' from him... =)

Just saw your PM bro... I had this exact same problem with both my rear belts.. it's the release catch inside the belt detent release that's the problem.. you'll need to remove the rear seat cushions, remove the 2 C-pillar covers and remove the rear speaker shelf, the belt assembly is held by a single 16mm bolt with a serrated lock washer on both sides

The first one I disassembled and fixed it.. it's not a simple fix.. so I won't outline it here

the 2nd one I didn't even bother and bought a spare from Propel LOL

Moral of the story, use the belts gently.. if you're impatient and yank them regularly, the detent mechanism will fail... since these are 16-17 year-old cars, they must have been yanked regulary by impatient Singaporeans
