e36 6 cyl engine

Re: e36 6 cyl engine

the standard ones are pretty much the same looking... ///M Power ones some differences

Re: e36 6 cyl engine

Yes, they are pretty similar.

All M50 looks alike, M52 looks slightly different from M50 but all M52 are the same. The Euro S50/52 motors look different from M50/52 ones. US S50/52 looks the same (They are the same block anyway).

Re: e36 6 cyl engine

if you pop the hood, they all look almost the same - can't tell what the capacity is just from looking...

naughty naughty... what do you have in mind?

Hi,

Can some pro please tell me does all in-line 6 cyl engine for e36 looks the same ?

Re: e36 6 cyl engine

ohh ic.. so why euro S52 and usa S52 has so much difference in power ? For usa S52 , any potential to mod until as power as euro S52 (without FI)?

Re: e36 6 cyl engine

The main reason for that is both are entirely different engines. Euro S50 are designed as a high performance engine for M3 but US versions are just M50/52 engines with larger capacity and slightly more aggressive cams.

Why is that so? Well, its because of marketing reasons due to poor E30 M3 sales in US.

If you want the US version to perform as good as the Euro version, yes its possible but its costly. You will need to port the heads, change the cams and stiffer springs and solid lifters, ITBs etc......Very expensive...

Instead most people simply go the FI route. More power and yet cheaper. US is bless with cast iron engines instead of aluminium ones (due to Nikasil issue). Thus they are very strong and can take lots of boost.
