Hi guys, i have a fren(owner) who is selling his e36 318iS Manual

Reg in 04/1993

1) Coe till 04/2012.
2)COE $31785.
3)All stock condition
4) With M3 body kit
5)Red colour with cream interior
6) Milleage at 187,000km

Hi Kosmik,

I understand the '93 318iS wasnt equipped with vanos. It's only available from 95 onwards ie. cars registered in '96 or later. These should be using the M44 engines (1.9L). Correct me if I am wrong?

GTV6 well bro..i am not sure abt the vanos thingie as thats wat my fren inform me tho. Well u can bring the car for diagnosis to check abt the vanos thingie...i ever come across someone ever said end 92 318iS got vanos...it was discuss in some earlier thread in another section..cant recall which ..

Really, dat will be good news to me:) Is there a means to ascertain if there's vanos externally?

318iS does not come with VANOS

Given the year of registration, it will be the M42 block, which will be the 1.8L

The M44 block, which is 1.9L came in 95 or 96 but still does not have VANOS.

VANOS was never in the 4 cycliner engine until the the N42 block, which is found in the E46 318i and the current E90 320i

actually what is the purposes of VANOS?? izzit something like VTEC??

Variable valve timing... similar to VTEC in that it plays with the valves but VTEC manipulates the lift whereas VANOS changes only the phase/timing. Correct me if Im wrong.
