Hi,

could anyone advised on the above model fuel consumption and comparing to the 320. Thanks lots

Re: E36 318 ia

A lot of difference my frend. 318i is 4 cylinder, 320i is 6 cylinder. Same goes to its maintenance and road tax ehhehe

Re: E36 318 ia

Blessings

Re: E36 318 ia

Congratulations and enjoy driving it, need any advice on maintaining feel free to ask. Running costs on 4 cylinder BMW are cheap ehehehhe. What year is your car?M43 or M40 engine? If M43 running on timing chain, M40 running on timing belt.

Re: E36 318 ia

hi,

Year 92, should be a m40.

Notice some problem with it already small ones though, so monitoring now. I'm runnig at FC 8- 8.5 per litre normal? tried my first dose of engine treatment using the STP engine/ combustion chamber/ fuel injector all in one treatment. heh hope to gain more out of a tank.

Thanks for your reply...

Re: E36 318 ia

YESS M40, 8-.8.5lit /100km is normal, wahh so good one huh ur fuel consumption. Normally town driving is 10lit/100km. Don't expect better than wat ur getting, cause e36 body is already heavy.

Re: E36 318 ia

8.5km/L sounds normal especially if it's auto since over the year, more slippage is expected from the torque convertor.

I would advice against any form of additive on the car, especially on the fuel side. My friend added some additive into his E36 and the car needs to be towed back to PML and realised the fuel pump or filter was gone..

I used to drive a 318iS and got very good economy when i drilled another hole on the stock air box to direct air from the bumper. The other thing u could try is installing iridium spark plugs. I got good result with Denso iridium when gapped to 0.7mm

Hope this helps

Re: E36 318 ia

Hi, thanks for the tips boss.... am really looking on how to max out the efficiency of the FC starting form the simple stuff first...like spark plug/ plug cables, recently spoke to a mechanic, who shared this knowledge which i never knew before about 95 and 98 fuel for high compresion engine, very intriging yet interesting

In conlusion he felt that 98 is more suited for high comp engine such as the BMW and Merc, due to the fact that 98 fuel give more power and less carbon deposit to the engine when it allow the pistons to fulling combust the fuel/ air mixture and not prematurely as the 95 furl does thus the carbon deposit.. What are your opinion of these?
