hi all, i changed to this tyres on saturday after slicing apart my 1.5 yr old PS2s. Thanks to some kind recommendations from the chaps here. I got them from Ray-S.....Ok here are my thoughts after 100km. i need 200km to break it in. i m running 245/35/19 and 275/30/19.

Dunlop SP Sport Maxx
Excellent acceleration and braking performance, but comfort suffers a little in the form of noise level. Still the ride comfort is close to the michelins. Almost identical feel to the PS2s. in the dry this feels heavier....but i am pretty sure its due to the fact that they are new and my PS2s were well worn in.

However, this is made up by superior dry handling, high speed stability, reassuring wet (it rained at noon on sunday) handling and high aquaplaning resistance (again perhaps because the thread is new and deep).

Reviews at tire rack put this tyre ahead of the famous PS2. The Dunlop SP Sport Maxx performed better in wet than dry, makes me feel confident so far.

best part, its 35 % cheaper than the michelins.

have a look here at what others say: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=MP

Re: dunlop sport maxx review

After running almost 10,000km, my tyres are still performing like they're brand new.

Re: dunlop sport maxx review

Mine too. Love the grip. It is better than Dunlop SP9000, Continental SC II, and Falken ST 115 (for sure) as far as value is concerned !!!

Re: dunlop sport maxx review

Just to add.

Was using a set of german made 235/45/17 Goodyear F1 which lasted over 40000km....nothing wrong with them for normal use esp. in the wet. Compared with my original set (Yoko A046 which is only available OEM), I lost some dry grip, steering response and handling but for the price of the GY and road use, no complains.

Last week, fitted the jap made Dunlop SportMaxx. To cut the story short, it felt better than the GY F1 from day 1. All the dynamics I lost with the GY was recovered somewhat. Though its $50 pp more than the GY, I am happy and glad I went with the SportMaxx.

Cannot match Axl's semi slick Toyo R888 lah.....kekeke... but will outlast him for sure.

Re: dunlop sport maxx review

Agree agree... been running them for 7500km now... my setup 235/ 35/19 all round... still good.. grip is excellent... handling is confidence inspiring when road is wet... unlike my CSC2... nightmare when its raining and alot $$$ too. Truly value for money...

Wow, thanks for the feedback guys - nothing like actual user feedback to confirm the magazine/website reviews.

Where to get them? And how much? :)
Got mine from Poh Heng Tyres at $250 a piece. I'm running on 225/40/18.
BTW I got the German made ones.

Re: dunlop sport maxx review

Due to popular demand, the prices of these tires will surely go up. Maybe it's a good idea to stock up a set in case haha.

Those who are fans of PS2 and SO-3, u will fine that SPMaxx is a bit heavier than PS2 but lighter than SO-3. Brigdestone tires are heavy anyway.
Information on full specs are all available from the tirerack website.

Toto
Glad you like em. Welcome to the club:)

Re: dunlop sport maxx review

Hi Bros,
I am on E46, 318, tyres setup 225/45/17 front & 245/40/17 rear. Anyone with similar setup or 17”. Recently Dunlop Sportmaxx has caught my interest.

I am on Goodyear F1 Asym, good dry grip, decent wet, quiet & less bumpy due to its less stiff sidewall. Have driven for about 5-7000 km. Feedback is slight, cornering has slight body roll even with my sport edition fittings (sport suspension & sway bars). It delivered lesser “drive feel” and confidence especially cutting lanes and hard cornering. I chose F1 Asym from tirerack test results and EVO tyres 2007 test. Dunlop was featured in the test but came in 8th position of the nine. Interestingly, it did well in straight wet, braking and its road route came in 2nd after Verdestein. Both the testers like Dunlop subjectively as I recalled. Also I like the F1 Asym light weight, 318 would compromise its pick up with heavier tyres.

I know this thread has been 2 years which I believe you guys would have more experience with Dunlop Sportmaxx and other tyres. I have heard about Federal 595, RE001R…

I would rank the following attributes:
1. Dry Grip (most important)
2. Wet Grip
3. Cornering & Confidence
4. Noise & Comfort
5. Road Feedback (important)

Of course, a price of 230+- is good, lower price will be desirable. Any feedback and opinions are appreciated.
