Those aperture shots never fail to amaze me.. how to do guys do it? Need special lens/camera?

Well basically if you are using a film camera, it depends on your lens and the film you use.

If you are using a DSLR, it depends on the camera and the lens. Haha, correct me if i'm wrong. =p

Lower your aperture, the more focus a.k.a depth of field you can get out of a photo.

For example, i used an aperture of 1.4 for this photo. Look the at bokeh!!!!!! =O

Was using an older lens for this 1 though. A Pentax 25mm 1.4 cctv lens. Still works wonders. =)

Re: DSLR wannabe Photographers or Professionals Come In!

I love bokeh too!! But i damn "pa jiao" photographer, so like to shoot birds only. Honestly i never explore beyond the basic functions and i dont use the video features that comes along these days. That said... the power of DSLRs these days...

Can see the reflection in his eyes?

How about the droplet on his eyelids?

Woah fantastic birdshoot. I was in Sydney earlier this year and man it was hard to catchbird with my zoom lens, let alone shoot it.

Re: DSLR wannabe Photographers or Professionals Come In!

The birds' pictures are superb. Great job, bro.

Nah not into macro... shot this at 480mm and then crop a hell of alot, birds were in their enclosure. Quality still remains so i'm pleased... i think cameras these days are too powerful. i once had a 40D, very frankly i didnt fully utilise all it had to give. Long way to go for me..........

Re: DSLR wannabe Photographers or Professionals Come In!

great to c the M4/3 picking up in popularity, im on the EP1!

what lenses do u own n which are your fav? ive collected the following n found the top 3 to be most lovely by far:
- m4/3 panny 20mm
- m4/3 panny 7-14mm
- 4/3 oly 12-60mm
- m4/3 oly 17mm
- m4/3 oly 14-42mm
- 4/3 oly 40-150mm

Nothing beat good old full frame lens 75 - 300 on DX body

Re: DSLR wannabe Photographers or Professionals Come In!

I own a Voigtlander 35mm 1.4 which is by far one of my favourite lens to use, a Pentax 25mm 1.4 and a oly pancake 20mm. Funding for a Leica M8 though but i keep spending money on my car hahaha.

Films ftw. Btw i've seen Sony's Nex-5. Seems like a very cool m4/3 camera.

NICE! would u need an adaptor for the Voigtlander 35mm? care to share the damage for this lens? thanks in advance!

the Nex 5 lens appear to be bigger than its body IMHO :huhhuh:

Re: DSLR wannabe Photographers or Professionals Come In!

I was expecting another type of pussy pic. :(

OMG! Beautiful!

Re: DSLR wannabe Photographers or Professionals Come In!

In my opinion, camera body is important to take good picture BUT a good len is the MOST important to take excellent picture.

Usually ones will pay more for the body and use basic len to take pictures, turn out that the pictures are indeed nice and swee. Until I saw my friend using a cheaper body BUT L-len to take those similar pictures (eg. sun rise), then I am impressed.

This is my experience :)

Invest more on lens with a basic body will do.
