SINGAPORE: Be a D.D. or Designated Driver. That is the message of an anti-drink driving campaign organised by Pernod Ricard Singapore, a wines and spirits distributor.
The aim is to get pub-goers to assign a driver to take them home safely or volunteer themselves to ensure a safe journey home for their friends.
The DD initiative will be rolled out at 20 popular nightspots such as Timbre, Harry's, Mulligans and Zirca on Monday. Others include Overeasy, KPO Lunar, Party World KTV Liang Court, Gusttimo.
40 DD Ambassadors from Pernod Ricard Singapore will be encouraging customers to sign up as a DD during the campaign period which runs till June 20.
According to the Traffic Police, the number of drink driving-related accidents increased 8.2 per cent to 537 in the first 11 months of last year, compared to the same period in 2009. And such accidents resulted in 16 deaths in the same period.
Overall, 2,687 motorists were arrested for drink driving from January to November last year
