Drifting BMWs

Hi all,

I'm helping to organise a drift clinic at F1 Paddock, and I would like to post the information here. Can the moderators help me? I can't post as I have less than 10 posts.

Anyway, hoping to see a good mix of cars for the drift clinic. Current participants are dominated by japanese cars. Hope to see some BMWs in some side way action.

Mods, please PM or email me (rearwheeldrive@gmail.com) if you can help me to post the info. Thanks!

erm, hi to Axel if you are still here.

regards,
koo

We will wet the tarmac to minimize damage to the tires. But fun comes with a price lah. Or just go slap on some 2nd hand tires.

any damage or strain to gearbox / drivetrain?

Wear and tear rather than damage. We will advise participants to change in new oil before hard driving.

In addition, we have engaged D1 drift driver Tezuka san (currently ranked 3rd) to be the chief instructor. This will be the first time we have a japanese pro drifter to head a drift clinic in singapore. Not to be missed.

I'm tempted to post the details here, but I don't want to get in trouble with the forum rules. So please mail me if interested.

btw, we previously had 2 Z4s attended a similar clinic 2 yrs ago.

regards,
koo

Well.. there's a good reason why Tyre Brands/Shops are always Drift Event sponsors. :)

Anyway. I searched around.
The clip was apparently features drivers from Bulgaria... yep, Bulgaria.

This will be held on 27th july 2008 (Sun) at the F1 Paddock area. It's a full day course.

Please mail me for more details. driftclinic@k1.sg. I can't seem to be able to send private messages.

That's true...But having some fun once in a while lah. Not drifting every weekend. It's a good chance to experience your car snapping her tail forward in a controlled environment.

what kind of wear and tear do you expect from an event like this?

cheers

Most of the wear and tear will of course be on the tires.

Mechanical wise, we recommend the participants to put in fresh LSD oil, for some, new engine oil if it's near servicing time. It's good practice to put in new oil before hard driving, e.g. track day.

That's all.

Re: Drifting BMWs

Ed, rear tyres gone, use back stock tyres for it if you can
clutch could be burnt out and gone
very harsh on drivetrain
high rpm's on engine, coolant overflow, engine obverheats, heads crack etc
could possibly spin out and crash
oh, hanbrake cable stretched, possibly handbrake spoil

For me, I would do it in a $500 toyota corolla, not your M3

It is unlikely to be as dramatic as you've mentioned.

Firstly, the ECU failsafe would have kicked in. If the check engine light comes on, it would be logical to back off.

Also, you will not be drifting for long period of time. It will be probably 10mins at a stretch and someone else will take their turn.

In any case, if you are not comfortable to take part in the drift clinic with your car, there will be a Stunt Driving Experience on sat (26 Jul). We are providing the cars for this for you to experience handbrake turns, reverse flicks. It will be a half day session (4 hours) at a price of $250. Same place, local race drivers as instructors and almost just as fun. :)
