Hi All,

Just got my Black Line Rear Lights in, and couldn't wait, so spent last night fixing up, and post here for anyone who might also wana DIY.

Time taken: 90minutes

BMW Part No: 63 21 0 406 678 (pix not posted to save space n time)
Contents:
- Boot assembly: 1 pc Left, 1 pc Right
- Main (body) assembly: 1 pc Left, 1 pc Right
Total : 4 pieces, each individually boxed, and packed into a large carton

Tools needed:

1) Standard (BMW ones in the toolbox is ok too) flat head screw driver.
2) Bolt socket 8mm
3) Angle driver (especially if you've got lotsa addtional wires fm other 'enhancements' running beneath your boot, else I dun think you'll need this)

Boot Assembly

Remove all plastic rivets holding boot inner carpet liner. Use the flat head screw driver. Use two screw drivers where rivets are 'harder' to take out.

Once liner is removed, you'll see the access to the light module.
Disconnect the cable first by pressing the 'catch' and pulling out the connector.

View attachment 22740
Once disconnected, It's only one bolt/screw to secure the piece. Loosen the bolt/screw using the bolt socket driver.
Remove the retainer (It actually 'slides' out), then the entire module

A gapping hole!

Prepare the Black Line Boot module by unscrewing and removing the retainer.

Insert the Black Line Boot module by slotting into the hole, but starting from the edge, as there are TWO catches that need to grab around the edge for a proper fit.

Once properly seated into the hole, assemble the beige coloured retainer, bolt it down, and re-connect the cable.

One side (I started with the Right side) of Boot module completed.
Do the same for the other side.

Body Module Assembly

Next, we move to the body module assembly portion (the larger piece attach to the main body)

For the Right (battery) side, turn the knob 90deg and pull out the carpet cover.

View attachment 22749
For the Left side, just pull out the cover out.

Once the cover is removed, the connections and mounting points (secured by 3 bolts) can easily be seen.
disconnect the cable, and unscrew the bolts with the bolt socket driver (8mm). If you need to use the 'angle driver' for easier and more convenient reach, use as necessary. Generally:
- to loosen: ANTI-CLOCKWISE
- to tighten: CLOCKWISE

View attachment 22751
Once the bolts are removed, the entire module can be removed quite easily, leaving a gapping hole!

Install the Black Line Body module into the hole, and loosely turn the bolts back in to secure the module.
NOTE: the holes are much larger than the bolt size, so allows for alignment.

View attachment 22753
Close boot to align the red/smoked line so that the Boot module and Body module are perfectly lined up. Then open up boot to tighten aligned modules.
Re-connect the cables.

Next, TEST the lights for:
1) No (lighting related) error message from the startup to engine idle
2) Lights are physically operating normally.
Once tested OK, cover back carpet/covers appropriately as you've disassembled area.
Sorry, no pix here.

Finally, peel off any protective sheets (you may recycle these to your Stock light modules)

Finished one side. Do the same for the other side in exactly the same way.

Once both sides are done, sit back and admire the diff it makes, visually.
