Hi

I need some good advice and kind assistance here.

Over the past months i always need to topup the engine oil in my 323i, average 2 times or more per month. sometimes using 1/2 ltr sometimes 1 ltr. So frequent that it doesnt seem normal to me. I use bmw longlife 0w40 oil.

What could be the problem?

Engine valve seal leak?

Anyone had this problem before?

Mine is 2.5 year old. would this be covered in the warranty?

hope to hear from you.

thanks

regards
G

Wah thats alot of engine oil...... Is the exhaust producing any blueish smoke?

Topping up of engine oil 2x a month is certainly not a normal phenomenon. Have it checked only with the authorized dealer where you purchased the car from, to save you from further heartaches later.

From my personal understanding, it is considered "normal" if you need to top up engine oil (1L) every 7000km to 9000km of distance traveled, depending on your driving condition. Engine oil can experience combustion and evaporation under such extreme pressure and heat conditions, especially in a BMW engine.

You should bring your car to the authorized dealer where you purchased it. They should be able to carry out an oil consumption monitoring to determine whether the consumption is excessive or not.

2 times a month? somewhere is not right, maybe theres a leak somewhere.

One primitive way to check for oil leaks, Just check the floor for oil stains when the car is parked overnight :)

Re: Depleting engine oil - always need to top-up

My user manual says oil consumption of 1.5l every 10K km is acceptable under heavy usage and carrying load. So currently I feel my 0.5l every 10K is OK, under my spirited drive. But yours is too much. Lift the car up at some tyre shop or workshop and have a look. The valve seal leak is the easiest to spot. Otherwise like futron said, if there is mechanical wear, there will be smoke.

Yeah man better have a check on physical oil leak.get it rectified before go to the big issues.Better go to a workshop to get it checked & conduct compression & oil consumption test.
