Daytime running lights.

Hi, i have a question for the FL/LCI E90 owners out there whose cars come without the xenons. When i activate the DRL (Daytime running lights) in the BC control thing will the parking light rings only be illuminated or will the whole low beams and the rings also come on when the light switch is left in auto mode in the daytime? And will the light rings be as bright at those 335i's DRLs?
The halogens look like that when the parking lights are on

and if the DRLs are on will they look like this? like will the inner two small rings will be brighter than the outer ones and are whiteish rather than the yellowish colour on the halogen ones?

Thanks in advance

Re: Daytime running lights.

Not really sure if I fully understood your question, but hallogens will definitely not give the white effect as compared to xenons.

DRL is pretty much the Auto mode on your headlight controls knob that is automatically switched on when the vehicle is moving forward, emitting white, yellow, or amber light to increase the conspicuity of the vehicle during daylight conditions.

On your headlight controls knob for xenon equiped cars, there are 3 modes, Auto, low beam and On (non auto). Auto and On mode will pretty much give u the same lighting effect. Difference being that in Auto mode, the both the inner and outer (corona) rings will come on depending on lighting conditions whilst you are driving. In low beam mode only the outer corona rings come on and it has a hallogen (orange) effect.

Reason why the outer rings in your second picture looks white is because of the daylight in which this picture is shot, making the orange hallogen look white.

Hope this answers your question.

Then what if the sunlight is very strong? will the corona rings light up only? like do the low beams come on too? i am asking as at 6pm where the sunlight is rather strong the low beams are already on when left in auto mode.

Re: Daytime running lights.

I suspect it is still based on sensors to detect and only if low lights than which ever lights are activated will be turned on. I don't think it has the Audi type of daylight running lights. But technically can still have it.

But a few weeks ago, saw a honda, with a row of blue leds lighted like christmas lights all over... sure get LTA attention one day.

What happened to all those motor bikes that are suppose to turn on their lights all the time? NO more?

oh. i like the corona rings to be on all the time mah. i always see the 335i coupes and convertibles always have them on like the Audi LEDs very the chio mah! ^^

Re: Daytime running lights.

yes, it really depends on lighting conditions. BMW's sensors are pretty sensitive, even when there is reasonable light the sensors will still activate the headlights. Unfortunately all lights excluding the high bean will be on. only way to have just corona rings on is to turn it to low beam, but that is a manual process. no way to make low beam corona rings come on automatically.

initially i was like u left it in auto and it keeps turning on even when there is reasonable amount of light. felt kinda silly. these days i turn it on manually depending on my needs.
