Day trip to Melaka - Tips please?

I am interested in just driving up for a day trip on a Saturday with the family. Thought Melaka would be a good place.

Any tips where should we go, safely-park, cheap-shopping and kill-time till the evening?

Is there a beach in that area where my daughter can play without having to checking into a hotel?

Go to mycarforum and do a search for melaka. Go eat the nonya food there. or try their teochew food(forgot name of restaurant) or chicken rice balls. if u kena parking tickets, just keep them and frame up at home!
