Dear all,

We've decided to run BMW.SG's first contest.

Come out with suggestions and ideas that will improve this forum's quality in terms of content / experience / features / functions / etc in whatever way you think will best improve the surfing experience of all members.

Some rules and guidelines.
1. The ideas MUST benefit all (or the majority) of BMW.SG members.
2. It must be feasible. (i.e. no ideas like.. free airplane tics for members to phuket)
3. You cannot repeat the SAME idea from what a member has posted already.
4. You can post ONLY ONCE, with 3 IDEAS.
5. No slamming of ideas and suggestions. Each member is free to say whatever he suggests, no matter how "weird" it may sound.
6. We have the complete right to choose the eventual winner for this and subsequent contests.

Lastly, Have FUN, be CREATIVE, and let the ideas flow! We plan to run this contest every month starting today.

What's the prize?

We are going to give away a FREE BMW.SG Shirt (worth 28$), in your size, in YOUR choice of colour (Black / white). The shirts are still in production and will be out any minute now, but yes, here is YOUR chance to get it for FREE.

We'll annouce the winner on the 1st of Dec 2005, and the next contest run will begin from there.

Editing to comply with contest rules:

1. Car-oriented events e.g. driving trips within Singapore (e.g. the one to Neo Tiew) or to Malaysia (e.g. the one to Cameroun Highlands), car rally etc.

2. Non car oriented events e.g. BBQs, picnics, bowling, wine-tasting, clubbing, paintball, diving, and karting etc.

3. At month-end meet-ups, marshall the cars to park in more cosy settings and closer to each other. Currently, no system. Cars parked across 2 to 3 side roads from one end to the other. Too far apart. Newbies may be intimidated.

Ok, now give me my T-shirt! Size M pls.

1. Admin guys must be present at monthly meet up to welcome newbie(s)

2. Share some of your mods. Write up a few things + take some pix pls. This is THE MOST disappointing thing in this forum. Big Time!!
If u post, we dont say u show-off. Rather, we appreciate what u do for the community.

3. Feature member(s) rides occasionally in official publications like Wheel, Carmag anything.

Sounds like Army WITS project.

Anyways, I would like to see more activities apart from the 1 month meetup maybe go-karting sessions or paintball sessions like the one Kenneth initiated.

1. Admin guys to be present at all month end meet ups wearing some kind of identification like a "Admin T-shirt" or name tag so that newbies will be able to identify you guys easily.

2. Small token or welcome gift for newbies at meet up. This may just encourage them to approach the Admin guys and thus help break the ice.

3.Besides the monthly meet up, we should maybe have another informal meetup like maybe a happy hour or kopi session on a particular week and day of the month. It could be like chill out place whereby anyone from the fourm going there would know that they'll more or less meet and see some of the members of this forum.

1. Set a theme for each/alternate meetups.. e.g. some side events like show and tell, local short drives, related trade presentation -> product intro/launch... that'll make missing a meetup really missing something.

2. Newbie Intro session.. a chance for us to know the newbie straightaway so that when a newbie were to approach any of the "old-bie" .. they don't appear so strange.. unless the old-bie is often absence.

3. "Nose-digging" avatar should be subjected to censorship.... buay tah han leh...

I like to suggest these few things to improve the bimmers.

1.Organise a bonnet car sales for all bmw owners to sell their stuff.
2.Organise a charity drive in singapore itself for the old aged charity.
3.Organise a safety driving habits for all BMW owners to show their graciousness.

1) create a chat room. allows members to chat with each other and maybe even have a live chat with the sponsors about their products.

2) create an email for members. i.e. [email protected]
helps promote the forum and it'll be good if it can be linked to our PM mailbox

1. car rally, treasure hunt style, check points etc...like those organise by wheels-for-fun? heck we can get them to do it for us....only bmws!

2. official annual trips to resorts in m'sia (track day not included)

3. month end meetups...oldies park in normal lots...newbies park parallel lots...this will get them more spotlight...at the moment all newbies feel lonely...n many will not come after the 1st time.

Can save some members some time to search themselves for parts and accessories. Admins will tell those present at the meet up who are the guys selling stuff to everyone else before hand so the others can identify can approach them.

3. Getting some sms related service? Not too sure about the cost, but nowadays sms really can do wonders, everyone are using them.. Can inform them of events and meetups.

my 5cents....

1. Get the Sponsors Involved in the meet-ups!! good for them.... good for us!
we can get to know them better n they can tell or show us their latest Products.. Services... Knowledge...etc ( maybe they can also set up temp shop there... with free drinks n fries maybe... hee )


2. sense of identity... u ordei have car decals... a BMW.SG t-shirt is good ( admin guys wear white... black for lau chiaos ... a singlet for Rod n the rest of the members should wear theirs to every meetups... then the newbies will know who to look for )... maybe a car bumper sticker next??
am sure the members will gladly pay some money for these ( t-shirts... stickers... etc just to raise funds )


3. organise car-washing or detailing /polishing during monthly meet-up as well ( guess it points to #1) .... but i'm leaning towards getting people to come in to wash cars manually... maybe a monthly BMW Bikini Babe Wash thingy... haha ( good for publicity... haha )
maybe start a montly or bi monthly circular... think its a good way to promote BMW.sg - u can put ur Forums... Classified Ads... Annoucements... Sponsors/workshops ads... etc etc )

For the website itself, i must salute the Admin for doing a GREAT job. Can't think of anymore things to improve....at this point.
I guess what is needed is some publicity to get more visits to the website.

1. Work out some get-together events for members. Try the cinemas for private screenings of certain movies, organisers get the privilege to decide what show. Get corporate rates if we have the volume, then it's cheaper. On the day of screening, can put up a signage for directions, also display our website address for any passer-bys to get curious and visit the website. Best still, invites some celebrities to the movies. They always serve as good publicity without fail. Can always have a "cocktail reception" at the parking area to show-off all the bro's beautiful beemers. Take shots with the celebrities, then display the photo at your car's windscreen or something.
Same principle can be applied with bowling outlets, karaoke "boxes", etc...

2. For recognition of lao jiaos, use different colours/designs in terms of T-shirts/Car decals. Admin can set the criterias. This way, you earn your ranks over time, with your contributions. Newbies could be encouraged to participate more actively to earn that kind of recognitions.

3. Bulk-Buy for members (Car-related). Areas of interest could be Car Grooming packages, corporate discount with petrol kiosks, etc....
As we need bulk commitment from members to secure such special pricing, for accessories and mods, I think it's kind of difficult to work this route. But can still work with the sponsors/supplier for one-off/adhoc "roadshow".
*Non-car-related: How about asking the telcos for corporate packages for members. Special buys of handphones with sign-up/extension of phone line contracts. NOt sure how this thing works, but can try lah.

I think for this contest itself, should also create a category specially for newbies, something like....."Best Suggestions from Newbies". This should encourage participation from newbies too. Afterall, the newbies may turn out to be the ones seeing all the shortfalls since Lao Jiaos probably get comfy with the current setup by now.

Just my.....I think this should worth more than 2cents, or even 5cents.
My 7cents worth it shall be.

1. instead of pm for the price, just add in the price/photo on the forum itself! it is much easier for others to decide or to negotiate!
2. add in other futures for older car models e30, e34, e36 or older e's
3. sg bmw club icon to follow as per other international bmw clubs which hav the same badge shape wit different motif to depict their country origin... correct me if im wrong!

I second that.

Transparency is needed to ensure fair treatment and rational choice. For instance, one could have bought a strut bar from X at $330 without knowing that Y is selling only at $300. One could have benefitted from an informed choice had he know that there is a basis for comparison.

I think BMWSG do have its own badge shape deplicting Singapore, look at the new Polo T-shirts. It has the colour and pattern of the BMW logo with the shape of Singapore. I think that it is very nicely designed man. Great work!! Design also on the bmwsg decal which i stuck it up on my car~ swee man.
