Comparison between Cars

Say you compare the V8 M3 with a 997 C2S... which will you go for given the fact that both are priced at about $100,000 (actually more than that) apart :yikess:

I heard its not worth getting Porker turbos brand new due to the steep drop and I just wanna hear what you guys have to say.

Re: Comparison between Cars

Porker for me hands down if that was my budget. For the M3 price point, I rather get the GTR and enjoy the spare change.

Re: Comparison between Cars

feeling itchy huh?

I'll go for the M3 at the moment.

But between the M3 and the Cayman S... well that's another matter for consideration.

i'll take the Cayman S..coz will catch more eyes:yikess:

Re: Comparison between Cars

Not sure if u include this as an option but it'll be a used C2S for me.

Re: Comparison between Cars

do drive the M3, C2S and the Cayman S back to back before making any decision.

Better to drive on a wet day.

And the thing down there below your right foot is called an accelerator. You gotta step hard on it whatever gear you're in. Do that, then let your loins decide.

Re: Comparison between Cars

Was thinking this same question for the longest time. I've more or less decided on the E92 M3 with M-DCT. Main reasons:

- that V8
- DCT box
- sits 4 properly
- all the comforts and toys I'm used to in Beemer (for a daily driver)
- $100K is a stretch for the C2S and gawd knows when Porsche is going to release their PDK and how much they'll charge.....

GT-R still an outside bet because PML still can't give me a bloody firm date for RHD M-DCT production, was March, then May, now it's June!....starting to get pissed off.

If I can't get an allocation before end of March, dammit! I'm getting a GT-R, even if I have to wait 6 months!

Re: Comparison between Cars

M3 with M-DCT should be in production already because the UK dealers are taking in orders with this option now!

PDK = Porsche Doppel Kupplungen??? :lol2:

eggz, why the requirement for having an automatic transmission? The E92 M3 6-sp manual is plenty impressive, and for involvement, it is quite settled that a manual rewards more in that department.

not flame bait, but doing my part to persuade folks that a manual is worth considering even in Singapore today ... hey I'm not an athlete but driving a manual car daily in the worst traffic (CTE+Shenton Way) is not an issue. Just have to carry driving shoes in the car that's all.

And man, you're getting an M3. Saddling it with an auto ... well ... is like muting a soprano.

Yes, I consider dual clutch and SMG both as autos coz they shift for you, right? That's all that matters, not the tech.

I think that's blinkered...

Besides have not really liked the manual transmissions in most supercars I have driven - hell the mazda RX-8 has a better transmission than the 911 996C2S.

What's a good transmission deserves a separate thread. But just on the surface, do you like a snickety snick transmission like the S2000's or a scrunch transmission like the Evos? Or something inbetween like the 911's 997 Aisin?

I used to think the S2000's transmission being the bee's knees, but now, I find that it's a little clinical, and a scrunchy transmission (best I've used is the Evo X 5-speed) wow!

Re: Comparison between Cars

Of stick shifts - the one I have liked the most is the RX8 as I said. Short, precise shifts. Press clutch, ram gear home!

Otherwise, my current favourite is Aston's sportshift - that's their DSG. No messing about - straight forward manual, no up or down shifting... only difference is that you use paddles instead of a stick.

Doing 140mph around millbrook (in a V8 Vantage, with both a manual and a Sportshift car) on a not-so-nicely paved road taught me the multitude of reasons why more and more manufacturers are opting for paddles instead of traditional sticks.
