Common problems with E85 z4?

Just wondering with regards to the e85 either 2.5 or 3.0, are there any common problems with the car?

Hope present owners, and ex-owners can shed some light to it?

Whats the main diff between the facelift and pre-facelift besides the side indicator and tail lights?

If one was to buy a 4-5yr old 2nd hand specimen, any particular area to look out for? problems with soft-top? radiator problems?transmission?

Facelifted E85 use the N52 engines, Pre-Facelift use the M54 engines.

N52 3.0 - 265bhp vs M54 3.0 - 231bhp
N52 2.5 - 213bhp vs M54 2.5 - 192bhp

If you are getting a SMG, look out for the SMG pump. Quite prone to leaking. Had replaced mine.

Steering column sensor was an issue for my ex-e85, and I never brought it out of Singapore once (obviously, no tracking either).

Cup holders are poorly made, break easily if you push it in too fast etc. Replaced mine twice.

Roof mechanism pretty fine, if you're looking for a 4-5 year old, EXPECT CREAKS. Mine was quite creaky after 3 years old.

Other than that, autobox is usually bombproof, car is a great looker and roof mechanism isn't much of an issue if you don't do silly things with it.

My Z4 is turning 4 soon and so far no problem except for normal wear and tear, reliable than my ex E46 318.
HW, the facelift bhp should be 218

major differences will be engine and it spec, the rear LED light, steering should come with paddle shift as factory standard.

as for the soft top, I understand that there is this rubber conditioning thing where u can use to upkeep the condition of the rubber seals. Will doing this ease the creaking problems?

The creaking doesn't seem to be from the roof, rather from the chassis itself.

Again, if you are test driving one, you should drive the car to some multistorey carparks and enter slopes at an angle SLOWLY to hear it for yourself.

Then again, I'm just being anal about it. It's all about the roadster experience and you should expect little niggles like that. Driving up and down parkway parade carpark is usually enough lol.

what will be the cost to change to new one if the top kaput?
why don you send in your intended purchase to any of the workshop for them to conduct a check for you, J4C, BVO or R2D is competent to assist you.
