Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread, but I have something to ask with regard to the new car collection process.

A friend of one has just booked a 5 Series with PML, and as part of the deal he gets V-Kool included. However, the salesman told him that once V-kool is done, the new car cannot be picked up from inside the New Car Delivery Centre @ Sime Darby (which is air-conditioned). Rather, the car would have to be picked up from the carpark. The salesman said that such a practice was due to company policy.

Therefore, I would like to enquire if any of you had been affected by this delivery process policy and if so, did you manage to persuade the salesman to let you pick up the car inside the air-conditioned room?

Thanks much in advance=)

Re: New E60 535i

Hi rkrskr,

A lot of car distributors practise this because it ensures that the car is delivered to the customer in its factory-fitted condition.

Unforseen things can happen on the way to the tinting company, especially damage to any parts of the car (e.g. tinting company scratches the console), so the distributor probably wants to be safe than sorry.

Likewise, if any damage was to be incurred during the factory delivery process, from the port to the storage area or collection centre, your friend would have a peace of mind. In the sense that any damages or claims will be dealt directly with the distributor rather than finger pointing.
Your friend should take this opportunity to check for defects on the car and highlight them to the sales advisor.

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

One of the other options would be to collect the car, then VKool the thing himself. This would incur some time on his side to send the car to the tinting centre but nonetheless, it provides the peace of mind.

But what you said about collecting it from the car park, I believe, is standard practice...

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

Thanks for all the advice!

I'll feedback to my friend about the collection process, and possibly suggest that he does the V-Kool afterwards.

Also, sorry to hijack the thread previously as I do not have a 10 post count yet, thus I cannot create new threads.

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I opted to get my tinting done outside but with the SE's recommendation so that I can get a better discount from the tint shop.

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

Hi, I think thats what my friend is going to do - get the tinting done by V-Kool after car collection. Anyway, on a side note, I happened to chance upon some photos of the new car delivery process on this forums and all the cars there had no tinting =).

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

Once you sign over the car, it is 'as is'. Before that, it is PML's duty to put right whatever that is wrong including chipped windscreen, stone/paint chips etc...

But once you have ok-ed it, its your baby....

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I had mine tinting done a few days ltr after i collected the car. Charges for the tiniting goes directly to my SE so no difference. Better to collect the car in stock condition, drive for a few days, then go do tinting. In any case u need to claim certain things during the first few days PML will not point finger.

Yup, even my friend's SE advises him to do so - collect car stock. The SE say its less likely for any problems to occur if tinting is done after car collection. In short, its more of a win-win situation for both parties. My friend has decided to follow the advice of the friendly and helpful forumers here:) .

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I collected the car 1st and then drove it to Vkool@Toh Guan for tinitng. It took around 1hr to complete my car, coz being the only car, I had the whole team of 3 workin on it. Otherwise it would be around 3hrs.

So the only diff is your time and effort to drive from Sime Darby to Toh Guan.

I prefer to do it myself, rather than having Vkool (not PML staff) to 'run-in' the new car :)

BTW, dun bother to chk out other tinting company, eg. CnL. Coz PML doesnt have 'special arrangement' with others. You will pay the same quote as any walk-in customer.

Juz talk to Yazzi....he's OK.

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

Hi guys, sorry to hijack this thread as i dun have the rights to create new thread.

Last weekend i was quoted 168k for a 523, wonder is there any more room for discount? Appreciate if any bro out there can share their experience with me.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I think you still can get some more discount at least 1-2k.... with the COE coming down i will be surprise if PML still sell it for 168k.... or at least have the VKool and other freebies thrown in...

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

Hi Bimmerguy bro,
how much did u pay for your Vkool.... thought of getting my done up. My friend told me that i could get it for 500, i suppose it must be the cheapest grade?.. care to share?

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

500 is SE price. Mine was sort-of thrown-in, aka freebie which is taboo word applied for PML - coz dey will nvr give away anything FREE :nehnehhh:

500 oso is vkool mirage oni, aka cheapest entry level package. if am rite, walk-in customer is ard 700+.

for non-Vkool brand eg. CnL, theres no special quote by PML. when the SE quotes, theres no diff as compared to walk-in.

Hey, u shld know rite, VKool :)

Hi just curious, did you tint your front and rear side windows evenly, or did you tint your rear windows darker (but still compliant with LTA regulations.

Regards

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I got mine in early Jan08 at 165k with V-cool thrown in.

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

When I installed solar film on my car, the remote becomes less effective. (i.e. only in a shorter distance will I be able to open the door remotely) :whythis:

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I collected my car from the PML carpark on a saturday noon. I was wondering how come it was not done at the delivery centre and my SE just says that the lighting condition is not good there. Carpark is brighter... to think I fell for this. He should have told me the truth about the company's policy about tinted windows rather than lied to me! :furious:

Re: Collecting 5-series from PML collection centre

I got mine at 523i at $168.8K in mid april without any extras. Met a guy who says he got his 520i in mid may for $170.8K:lol2:
