Re: CNG for BMW?

think of what hap if someone ram your rear... i wonder will that cylinders explode ?? also if can dr bmw , shold not worry so much about fuel cost..

Re: CNG for BMW?

Many countries have been doing this for decades already. BMW no exceptions

for me, i would never do

Gas is for bbq's

Re: CNG for BMW?

Unless you don't want any boot space.....it'll take up half your trunk space or more....

Re: CNG for BMW?

In view of rising energy cost, I guess that someday, someone would invent a BMW car that could use anyone of these: petrol, electric, hydrogen, water, gas, or cng. The driver has the options to choose anyone of these fuels depending on which is the cheapest fuel at the moment.
This might be a wishful thinking, but maybe it could be a reality in the future.

Re: CNG for BMW?

If we have read the many articles on CNG, i believe that each shld read it and make their own conclusion if it is "safe" enough for them , and if u r willing to sacrifice boot space.

What I was asking is if any forummers out there know anyone who have done the CNG conversion for their BMWs.

BMW did have a vehicle that could use both hydrogen and normal fuel. thus if a CNG tank is added to that vehicle, it would be able to use 3 types of fuel.

Anyway, what phil mentioned is correct. CNG has been in use other countries for many years. There is also bio-diesel, ethanol, LPG (the liquid form of CNG) etc used other countries.

Acutally, Singapore is very slow in terms of fuel technology. Other countries are already running diesel passenger cars using bio-diesel.

Cabs in Japan, US, Bangkok etc are already running on LPG. Yet, we are still running diesel on Euro2 spec engines that dumps out lots of pollution. Its like we are livingi n caveman age man....

I have never tried CNG and I don't think I will want to. The main reason is the lost of power. If you want to convert to CNG, you have to be prepared for the power lost.

Re: CNG for BMW?

There's a neighbor of mine who's converting his Audi TT Roadster (new model) to a CNG one.

He did it for his mini van and is in the process of converting it. Well, think of it as...if you don't need the speed and want it for the looks with maximum fuel economy, it's a good bargain.

Re: CNG for BMW?

actually gas has a high octane rating, its good fuel if you know how to get the most out of it. Cannot use regular standard stuff, can get many mod gas fitout things. You can get HP if you try

again, gas is for bbq's

Either the car will be humongous, or you can only fit one driver and no passengers.... lol... you'll have to fit a hydrocarbon fuel tank, battery packs, hydrogen fuel cells and gas cylinders all into one car...

Read an article in Autocar some time back that someone in Sg has converted his Cayman to CNG....

..no choice right-economic survival? look at the amount of committed infrastructure at Jurong Island and you can guess why S'pore is soooooo slow.....

I think the only way to get more power out of CNG is to going FI.

Re: CNG for BMW?

MAte, many many very serious street cars, even some drag cars and race boats use it. Ive seen 871 supercharged 502 inch engines running on it and making 800+hp.
There is some very specialised companies making performance gas stuff

Re: CNG for BMW?

Agreed!! I feel that many singaporeans are getting around to the idea of CNG being better for the wallets and environment (slightly) , only sacrificing boot space.

Safetywise, I have no qualms since our very kiasee govt will approve cng tanks, it will def be safe . (Its TUV std tanks btw).

But , if u read the article closely, its LPG, not CNG. There is a slight difference between the 2. Its back to school time for me at least. A lot more to learn abt the future of fuels!
