Clock slowing down

I have this weird problem. My car clock seems to slow down 2-3 minutes every few days. I would reset it again and monitor it. It would be fine for a few days and the slow down again 2-3 mins and then probably 1-2mins every few days thereafter.

Could this be a symptom of dying (or weak) battery? My car battery is already 3.5yrs old, and sometimes I dun drive the car for up to a week.

Anyone have this problem or know why my clock is slowing down?

Re: Clock slowing down

On a serious note, has anyone installed a Battery Trickle charger or Battery Tender on their car batteries? There would be times when I dun drive for up to 3 weeks if I am overseas so I am afraid the battery may get discharged and go dead. Normally whats the "benchmark" for battery going dead if you dun drive for extended periods of time? 3 weeks? 4 week? or months?

BMW batteries are high capacity that's why it is so heavy. I think 3 weeks is no problem. If you are leaving for more than a month, disconnect the battery. That's what I am told and especially for those US cars who store their cars during winter, they disconnect their batteries for more than a month.

But wouldn't disconnecting the battery 'delete" all the settings on the radio, memory seats etc etc?

A few years back I used to year that certain conti makes, cannot disconnect battery or have a flat battery as the car electronics will lose all the settings, then timing all run, result in car cannot start due to settings all gone, etc. Is this true? Or with today's technology, such issues have been eliminateD?
