Hi all,

Just like to hear some experience of the fellow members, when you drive to Malaysia, what r the things to look out for?

If I drive to outskirts or resorts, should be ok rite? :) i hope.

I heard city area is more questionable..

currently i am driving a Impreza, I heard Impreza is not so pupolar in malaysia so I feel 'safer'. but to think if I change to a BMW..

Any experience or thoughts?

No worries lah!

UDMs not popular with the car thieves as the parts "Black" mkt for BMWs not so happening in Malaysia lah.

Top targetted models in Malaysia:

1) Camry
2) Harrier and/or RX 300
3) Waja

If you drive your UDM into Malaysia, try to be more inconspicuos if you are worried like not washing your car before you enter the country as I was told by some frens that dirty cars somehow invite less attention lor......

The risk of going to Malaysia (if any) in a BMW or Merc or some other continental marques (IMO) is that of inviting robbery or outright hijacking of the car.

Just be careful and be more cautious in notorious areas in the city. I guess you should just apply the same level of cautiousness as with travelling to other countries.

Other than whatever mentioned, just enjoy the drive when in Malaysia be it on the NS Highway or B-roads.

But do watch out for bumps and pot-holes along b-roads. I kena a few last weekend on the way to Mersing. :verysad:

:wavey:

Thanks! Robbery and Hijacking... scary.. :uhhh:

Just have to be more alert.. (bmw got driving school to train drivers to get out of such situations? )

Hi, an incident happened to me eve of national day. Drove by second link and stopped to use toilet at Esso station just after toll. Be wary of strangers waiting around. I went into the toilet and was followed in. The guy said he was Indonesian and needed money to get back home. He told me to be quiet and was going to shut the entrance to the toilet. I quickly shoved him aside and ran out to the car and locked doors and drove off!

Be alert.

Cheers

Does indonesians happen to be as homo as bangladesh workers ? Always see them holding hands along serangoon road walking together. just joking.

Not sure if pepper spray is legal or available for sale in Singapore. Always handy to keep one. I'll have to say your lucky that the fella wasn't carrying a knife. Will have to take extra precaution in future. Perhaps wait for everybody to take a leak before you enter or something.

Re: Car theft issues in Malaysia and BMW

Thank God. Nothing happened to you.

I've had my fair share of such extortion during my younger days at the bus stops during peak hours but a bunch of punks.. in JB.
Lucky i was broke... nothing happened.. weird people with weird reasons to go home.. and ask for money.. :screwedu:

Thanks - just to warn everyone. Unfortunately was solo car going up - taught me a lesson to be more careful when going to the toilet. Rest of the trip was uneventful - thankfully

Hi,

Came across this shop in Ubi that can track your car in case it's stolen. Didn't ask about the charges though and also don't know how it works. If you guys are keen, will check it out for you...

1 of those private investigator stuff or under table ? If they managed to track the car down, how do we reclaim it back ?

Ya, they do have this kind of technology. was long time back already. I had in my previous2 car, need to pay for annual subscription fees. they use satellite, can lock ur car, start/shut ur engine, watever thingy. but all need $$$. I personally dont find it good. anyway, it comes with the car by agent installed.
