Car keys and opening your doors

Morning all, I have been experiencing problems opening my car doors with my car keys. Pressed once, the driver's side opens. Press again (and again and again and again) nothing happens.

Plonk myself into the car and use the auto lock button by the gear shaft to open the other 3 doors.. nothing happens.

Crank the car, engine on, everything is fine again.

Anyone knows what the prob is? Is it the depleting battery in the keys?

Thanks for reading!

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Have you tried using your other key to see if the same problem persists?

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

I actually had the same problem with one of PML's loaner cars. The solution was either to on and off the car again or to do what you just did. Maybe you should call PML and ask them about this issue

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Shouldnt be the battery coz if it was, then u coudnt even open the driver's door..

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Maybe u juz need to re-programme the key again.

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Had same problem with my E46 320i. Not sure what the problem is. Actually all you need to do is to lock again with your remote key, and start all over again. The other 3 door should unlock. Couldn't get PML to sort out, they claim there's nothing wrong, because it doesn't happen whey they are trying out.

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Yeah that tends to happen. When the car's at PML it behaves when it's out the problems begin

It happened to my car too.. But not all the time, so i dont really bother.
1. Like what others said, u have to lock with the remote again and start all over again. It should work fine.
2. You are unable to unlock the other doors after u enter the car with just the driver door open, thats normal. Try locking urself in with ur remote. The lock button is also not able to work. Everything gets back to normal after car is started.

My previous E46 had the same problem. I figured that if you want to open all door, you need to press the remote control twice without any pause. I think when there is a few secs of pause, the remote control seems to ignore it. so, Just press twice consecutively (no pause).

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Thanks all for reading and replying. Unless it gets worse (like me getting locked out of my own car after meeting a hottie at attica...) I'll live with it. :D

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

I have a slightly different problem. Suddenly 1 of my keys couldn't open or lock the doors remotely anymore. Tried with the spare key and it works fine. Anyone have a similar problem? It can't be a battery flat right since its supposed to re-charge each time I put key into ignition (and I alternate keys)...

Thanks!

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

Battery has got lifespan also.

My guess is that the battery is dead

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

press the third time and hold will see your window rolls down,

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

i got it once b4. i had to use the key to manually open the door. after that the remote control works........dunno why as well....:whythis:

one question guys: i realised that i need to pretty near to the car b4 it can be activated?....i also feel that the batt is weak....but the car computer does not indicate weak batt. anyone can comment on this?

guess it is the problem when the car has too much electronics on it.....

Re: Car keys and opening your doors

PML diagnosed and replaced a remote wireless amplifier on the car (under warranty) when they realised that locking/unlocking range was a bit short. you might want to check with them. mine was a 2-week old 523i.

if the range is short put ur key touching ur chin (not joking) ur range will be extended...

You can also put it on any part of your head.
