Buying a Z4: The Whys and the Wherefores

Question for the knowledgeable folks.

Wife wants a Z4. Used.

So this was one option I came across while looking for a decent cheap one: Used imported BMW Z4. Looks nice, but it is imported = no warranty. At this age, anyhow no warranty so I am wondering what are the pitfalls of buying something like this. Given no turbos and an auto shift, unless the earlier owner really raped and pillaged this car, it should do well...

The closest I find in terms of PML cars in Singapore are about 20-30K more.

And lastly - what's the upside of buying the hardtop apart from it being the latest model? Asking coz the price differential is approx 60-70k!

Cheers

Hi TC,

it will be good to bring it down to a workshop to double check on the over-all condition before you make the purchase as i don't think there will be any issue. i have a few friend also bought imported used Z4 ( 07 and 08 models ) so far swee swee...........

anyway there's a few reputable BMW workshop so no worries.....

As for hard top or soft top, depending on your liking...........both looks good but if you are comparing the ( E85, soft top ) model to the ( E89, hard top ) then i think quite different as they are different generation model........

happy searching.........
welcome to the Topless Club in advance.......
cheers

Re: Buying a Z4: The Whys and the Wherefores

Soft tops are suitable for ladies that like to tie a scarf around the head and put on sun glasses. Like in the Marilyn Monroe movies........

Hard to imagine that in a hard top - perhaps hardtops fit ladies that are more like the Lady GaGa types.......

Either way - make sure you get it with the wind deflector.

p.s Double check the roof and the 2 roof motors........

Juz in case u missed out, do look at depreciation instead of just price as I realise the OMV is only 22k in your link.

Re: Buying a Z4: The Whys and the Wherefores

its ur wife...not mistress... so buy her latest model...

Re: Buying a Z4: The Whys and the Wherefores

For hardtops like the new Z4s which are the first to come up with hard tops (as in earlier model is soft top so it begs the qn whether enough R&D) you might wanna check for water seepage issue and creaking. Hardtops generally have a heavier roof than a soft top so driving dynamics may also differ. Why not a TT convertible?

Re: Buying a Z4: The Whys and the Wherefores

I think the wife will like the previous Z4...
The steering isnt sticky but very light as it uses electric power steering...

I personally dont like the feel of the steering in that sense ( prefer hydraulic p/s ) but the car is still damn good to drive
