buying a used e36

Hi, All the bimmer lovers

I friend of mine is looking to close a deal for a e36 318is, 97model

He heard of the bmw forum and asked me to seek some advise as he has some questions

i) is the spare parts for this model still easily available?

ii) is the common parts similar to normal e36 318 and interchargeable?
i.e
- ignition coils (rectangular box type),
- alternator
- radiators,
- aircon compressor, dryer
- rubber hose & belts etc

The BMW factory continues to manufacture parts for 15 more years after the last batch of that particular model is made. After the last batch of 1998 E36, u could expect them to continue to make parts till 2013. Most parts from 316i, 318i and 318iS are the same.

They recently stopped manufacturing parts for E30 models after 15 years since the last E30 was manufactured, but still, parts for this model is still easily available.
