Bridgestone RE 050A ???

Users Awaiting Email Confirmation
I am planning to change my rear tyres. E46 318 Sports.

Can anybody give me a feedback on Bridgestone RE 050A or RE001? I am currently using GR-80 and is happy with it for its comfort and quietness.

The website listed RE001 as "high performance tyre" and the RE050A and "ultra high performance".

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

I am not familiar with Run Flat Tires.... but correct me if I am wrong, its the rubbers and not the rims that has this function.

So, if BMW owners change to regular tires, this function is gone? And, there is no spare tire!

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

Right, it's the rubber.

But here I am refering to RE 050A normal tyres, not run-flats. Normal 245/40/R17 for my E46 Sports Edition rear, staggered.

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

I've heard mixed reviews on the RE-001 Adrenalins. Have just bought RE-050A for my E30 but haven't driven the car yet (still in the workshop getting some engine work done).

If you are happy with GR-80 then maybe you would prefer a quieter compound than either the RE-001 or RE-050A.

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

Based on my first-hand experience, having used both the Dunlop SP Sports 9000 and the Bridgestone RE 050A,

I find the Dunlops gives me better wet and dry grip and is also less noisy than the Bridgestones.

The impression I get is that the RE001 or 050A are not as quiet as GR80.

How much are you paying for 050A and from which shop? I will be using 2 pcs of 245/40/R17.

From Chin Wah on Killiney Road. Can't remember the exact figure but it was under one grand inclusive of GST for 4 pieces of 205/50/16

RE-050A is not the cheapest around. I could have used Pilot Premacy 2 and saved nearly two hundred bucks I think.

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

Hi there...

I am using a set of RE01R not the 001 adrenalins.

Very good tyres. I have it in 205/55/R16 form on my E90. Alot better than the michelin RFTs tat came with the car. Performance is very consistent even after 10,000km. Thread wear is ard the same as the OEM RFTs. Thread wear rating is 140, traction is AA, temperature is A rating.

RE050A IMHO doesn't feel as grippy. It is more quiet but RE01R is better in the rain and far more superior in the dry. Price wise its ard $30-50 cheaper per tyre at 205/55/R16 size. Got my RE01Rs at $220 a piece from southeast tyres.

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

I'm currently using RE-050, wears very very quickly only after 5 months of usage (8000kms) almost botak liao.
Grip level in dry is above average similar to that of Falken FK451, Conti CSC2. Grip in wet is very good as well. Noise level is on the high side since its performance oriented tires. not value for money though. I would rather get Toyo T1-Rs anytime over these... probably they wear TOO QUICKLY.

This sounds bad.... 8000Km and "almost botak lial"! They must have used the same compound as my son's Nikko.

I concur. The RE-01R is fantastic although a tad noisy. I find that my average driving speeds have increased -- seem to be braking later.

Note that they are only available in limited sizes though -- check with a Bridgestone RFT dealer (only RFT dealers can sell RE-01R and RE-55S).

RE-55S is also very good in the dry, but super noisy like all other semi-slicks.

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

Something to share from my recent visit to southeast tyres:

RE01R is higher quality/price than RE001 and RE050A.

Performance ranking as follows:
RE01R
RE001 adrenalin
RE050A

cheers

Re: Bridgestone RE 050A ???

I called souteast tyres to enquire about the Bridgestone. They are far from friendly. Still get better service from Yew Lee at Bt Merah Central.
