Breyton Springs

Changing springs to lower car. Any drawbacks?

Make sure the springs are meant for your car else your car will vibrate after 80km/hr.... but look at the bright side, u have a oshim massage chair in ur car..

Heard that stock shocks will wear off faster.

Re: Breyton Springs

It'll definitely wear out the stock shocks faster but its a very cheap way of lowering your car. I went down this route once and its visually pleasing yet not so tough on the wallet. Car felt firmer. Only disadvantage, besides the accelerated shock wear, is cornering at 160km/h. Its not so stable then. ;)

How much faster will the shocks wear out vs. stock?

Re: Breyton Springs

After spring change, gap now 1.5 fingers front, 3 fingers rear, why aren't they the same? Besides shortened life span, what other benefits are there for changing shocks? And which brand/model should I go for, if necessary?

Re: Breyton Springs

There was another E60 parked next to me so I was able to compare the before and after. Rear reduced from 3 fingers to 2.5 fingers, front from 3 to 1.5 fingers. So car is slightly slanted. That should be good for the rear shocks and no problem reverse park, hopefully. THe low front looks really good.

Re: Breyton Springs

Any other good workshop to check if my springs have been installed correctly? Thanks.

Re: Breyton Springs

I would have thought that you will end up with a "bouncy/floaty" ride especially over undulations if the spring rate is higher than the standard springs. The standard shock won't be able to offer a higher enough damping rate to stop the bounce/float. You probably won't feel this in Singapore but if you venture up to Kuantan then... It is always better to upgrade the spring and shock together as the matching shock should have the correct damping for compression and rebound.

did you get a copy of the wheel alignment print out?
i watch the workshop did my suspension transplant and pretty much learn what it takes to assemble suspension. If i read your post, the drop in your ride with the breyton springs is quite accessive given you kept the existing shock. For your info, the original sport suspension for normal e60 and that of M5 gave you two fingers gap (asian man fingers those are) on driver side and 3 fingers on left hand side. 15mm difference to standard suspension. Of course the M5 design and set up are altogether different but there are reasons for not bringing it down any lower i suspect.
BTW, do come to the sunday meet up and get more info there from fellow e60 owners!

cheers

The gap lowered should be 30mm, according to spec. What I thought was 30mm both front and rear. But now I am getting 30mm front only, the rear stays pretty much the same. I am going to wait 3 weeks to see if rear springs will settle down. What I don't understand is, if the car is built with 50/50 weight distribution, and the front is lowered immediately, then why not the back? Why do I have to wait 3 weeks to see it settled?
