Brembo Question

Hi all,

I've got a question here, hopefully can ask you guys for your opinions / advice.

I've got a E90 320, and like the red Brembo brake thingy, and I've seen the Brembo brake cover being sold at some tyre / rim shops... so can I:

(1) install just the fake brake cover only, without changing the current (stock) brake system?

(2) If yes, what does it entail and would it void any warranty from PML? (btw, my rims are 18" with Eagle F1 tyres)

(3) I dun go to the track, but what is the cheapest option of Brembo brakes? I read in some threads that it goes for around 6k?

Thanks all in advance!

Re: Brembo Question

Whatever it is, please don't put the fake plastic cover... One look and people can tell that it's fake from the rotor size.

2 other reasons not to do it:

1) your brake calipers need to be ventilated. When you enclose them in a plastic cover, insufficient cooling may occur and you will lose braking performance. Fine if your just cruising along. Not so fine in the event of an emergency

2) Your calipers emit a lot of heat. This will loosen the glue that holds the fake plastic covers to your brake calipers and over time, they may fall off, probably while driving (quite a few people have already experienced this, do a search on mycarforum). They will certainly be smashed to pieces by your rotating rims. Unlikely to cause damage except scratching up your rims on the inside. Worst case scenario is that the sharp plastic pieces may sever your rubber brake hoses and cause you to lose all braking.

Re: Brembo Question

Ok, point taken. Thanks.

So, what is the cheapest option available for Brembo?

Thanks again.

Re: Brembo Question

I think starting price for the 4 piston non aero-rotors is 3k+, front only.

Re: Brembo Question

Thats a really good price. I got quoted 5.7K for the front only, 2 piece floating rotors though.

Re: Brembo Question

No fakes pls !!! Aiyo y would u want to have the fake cover for ?? Better to get real thing...looks damn chio and performs as well. Moreover u have a beemer bro....up the standard a little leh. :lol2: Ask Wilman..he can sort ya out !!

Re: Brembo Question

hahaha... u are the first BM dude to consider putting the Plastic cover sia... no offense, maybe u only want the look, and not the performance.. but like Rastaman said it, its a Beemer... don't make it look cheap la... :D

Re: Brembo Question

Why put fakes? Pls dont ever do the quad-pipe thing also where 1 of the pairs are fake. Saw a jippun car with 2 x 2pairs of split exhaust tips. Peeped under n saw that 1 of the pair is actually dummy, welded to rear bumper. The inactive pair of pipes is like mint chrome condition, the active pair is dirty n burnt in colour. One look u know its fake. Fugly to me.

Re: Brembo Question

I had a thread asking about changing rotors just for looks (i tot it was bad), and advice was if possible, change the break system better....but putting the fake caps for looks!!! NO WAY! over my dead body!! haha..Please dont do it! :screwedu:

Yes, Brembo is alittle ex, you can check out other brands which may be cheaper.

Re: Brembo Question

dont put those cover... it will trap heat and brake dust... dangerous....

if u want real ones... wilman is da man... he imports them....

if u are poor like me... just change to aftermaket pads and steel braided brakeline... can get from wilman also.. :)

Re: Brembo Question

Larry, I pity you dude but the opinion is unanimous. Don't put those covers. They don't look good and there are dangers if it loosens and drops off. There are cheaper options like Stoptech which are slightly cheaper than Brembos. Cheers!!

Re: Brembo Question

I was also shocked.....plastic covers......OMG!!

Larry wat are you tinking man?? U driving BMW not Kia Picanto......:lol2:

Either the real thing or nothing! No plastic cover please!!

Re: Brembo Question

Ok guys... I got the picture... already asked Seetoh to check some prices for me...

Hopefully, will have new brakes for the New Year!

Re: Brembo Question

Can I borrow your thread (may be good for Larry to know as well) and ask if anyone has tried AP Racing brakes. I was told that for the same price as a 4 pot Brembo you can get 6 pot APs. Any advice from the experienced bros? Thanks.

Re: Brembo Question

doesnt sound right...i always thought AP were quite a fair bit more pricey than brembo...i could be wrong though. IIRC Racebred has experience with AP...and was it puny or piggyboyz (please correct me) try asking them!

Re: Brembo Question

Thanks Kurqa and rex, that's what I thought too. But I got quoted about 5.7K for the Brembos and ST said that their APs were around 5K + too like rex said. Need to reserach further but thanks for the indications. Cheers!
