Brake Fluid for Brembo

Larse thumb, I install brembo I put in 'normal' BF. Not sure is it my barntark itchy but at times I dont feel the brake is as good. Sometimes it is ok. Some hiadees told me if BF hot>>>boil, then the braking power will drop bcos the caliper cannot clamp the rotor as well to stop the car.

hence yours truly beng is thinking of replacing the BF with a goodder one. Apa bagus BF ?:)

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

Then how come u using Motul...better own up.

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

I using Motul because its much cheaper than Castrol! :)

Castrol is definitely not worth the money in day-to-day driving.

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

ABD
What brake fluid grade are you using?

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

ABD for street stock might be best. Brake does not get too stupid hot on street unless you doing crazy testing, on track it is a little different.

While Castrol SRF and Motul 600 are great for track, they need to be changed quite often because they absorb water like thirsty hippo. With a lot of water content, the boiling point of these brake fluids decrease dramatically and prolonged water absorption will cause it to brake fade even faster.

edit: srf as i recall and from searches, absorbs less water than Motul 600. If you must have aftermarket I guess SRF is a better choice than M600, save for debatable brake feel because of its chemistry. read here:

I have changed my fluid to using ATE Superblue but the bloody blue dye gets on everything, BUT IT'S DAMN EASY to bleed brakes lor ...

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

Changing RBF600 twice for every SRF change is still cheaper!

Castrol really charges a premium but it seems to be touted as the best in the market.

somebody gotta check out a scientific analysis of the brake feel of SRF. DOT 5 silicone chemistry regularly gets cursed for compressibility (thus spongy brake feel) but SRF is a special patented chemistry also involving silicone but the greats say it is the best. So the traditionalists go for 5.1 which is the same water sucking shit of Dot 3 and 4 but with Dot 5 specs.

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

I am not sure why pple wants to go for 5.1 instead...

Pros:
1. Same water-absorbing characteristics of Dot 3 & 4.
2. Higher boiling temps than Dot 3 & 4.

Cons:
1. Spongy feel
2. 3 - 4 times more ex than Dot 3 & 4

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo

Happy with the ATE SuperBlue, I believe it is DOT4.0

because 5.1 have all the good stuff of 5.0 but not spongy feel. It's same formulation as 4.0 - not silicon based.

Also when changing from 4.0 to 5.1 don't need to clean all components like hell.

I see!

I got mixed up between the specs of DOT 5 and 5.1!

DOT 5 is silicon based whereas DOT5.1 is Glycol Ether / Borate Ester based.

Interesting!

I know this is BMW forum but can all the kind hiadees not speaking German. Si Mi see DOT ?

Re: Brake Fluid for Brembo
