Bonnet lid extremely hot after every drive....even in the evening

Hi folks, can any of you give me some comments please?

I just got a used E90 323i. I noticed that the bonnet (specifically the area just above the engine) is "extremely" hot, unbearably hot to a point I cannot place my palm on the bonnet for more than few seconds - the driving was done in the evening.

Is that normal just for BMW? because I am worried of over-heating problems.

Your comments and advices are appreciated, thanks.

I just hope this is normal and wouldn't damage the paint work or something worse....

Hi Pandora, my ride is same as yours and I've never and also will never want to place my palm on the bonnet after driving. Though I don't really know how "hot" is your bonnet as according to your description, the paint work of my bonnet so far so good leh.

It's is an extra function BMW put ther to stop sea gulls landing on your bonnet.

there's always the under bonnet heat shielding that you can get from pml (which your SE may have thrown in).. helps prevent heat related hazing especially after detailing..

Maybe just pause and think for a moment....

Some users here said earlier.. that this is good! Helps to dissapate heat faster.

Imagine the bonnet thingy is an insulation.. harder to cool down. The full surface of the bonnect helps to conduct heat faster.. and cooler for the car... I like this idea of a large heat sink! Based on "educated" thinking...lah...

Because of this and most likely gona sell the car every three years.. I like to maintain status quo! Why install and all the internal plastics and other materials get higher than necessary heat. We are in Singapore not Siberia leh!

it worked for me. hazing on the bonnet area just above the engine doesn't happen anymore.. and i don't feel the car running hotter than before i installed it... it's not a heat trap.

Ah Lian, my E39 has d factory bonnet insulation. Plastic parts nvr melt. Nothing happens to d paint work. Lastly, operating water temp for E39 520 is around 100 deg.

My e64 also has that, it's not a problem for me coz most of the time sex occurs in the cabin, not on the bonnet.

No such problem for E46, but could be due to the insulation layer....
