Bonnet Insulation. A Bane or a Boon?

Given our very hot tropical temperatures, do you guys think it is a good idea remove the bonnet insulation on our rides.

An insulator does keep out heat, but it traps heat from the engine also. So what are your experiences, boys and girls?

aiyo, calling us boys and girls, you must be very old hor, alvinado. lol

Anyway, my personal view is better to do w/o the bonnet insulation because BMW engines are by and large very hot when running. So I presume adding the insulation will likely worsen the situation and cause oil leak faster which is a common problem. Again, just my thought.

with or without insulation ... the little thin piece of thingy on the bonnet
in term of heat dissipation and noise insulation, the difference is 0.1% ...

I not that old, in my early 30s. But you are right. I think our climate will trap heat more also.

Re: Bonnet Insulation. A Bane or a Boon?

It does sound and heat insulation provided by this thing.
I remove mine due to it shrink to smaller size which i cant put them properly on the hood.
For me nothing difference . You worry about heat trap inside engine bay actually if you drive, air will pass through all small gaps and bring out the heat.
For the sound insulation purpose, i rather it roar as much as it can compare to lexus.

Re: Bonnet Insulation. A Bane or a Boon?

On a separate note, anyone did insulation on the wheel arches or on all 4 door panels?

Thread moved from classifieds section.

Re: Bonnet Insulation. A Bane or a Boon?

The X1 doesnt come with bonnet insulation. I had a fren who was gian to buy and had it shipped from the US (dun ask me where to buy... cos i dunno). It helps with the noise and also saves the bonnet paint.

I tot our door panels already have insulation?

Re: Bonnet Insulation. A Bane or a Boon?

the doors have insulation but very thin...and the wheel arches have no insulation at all.

Perhaps the doors need not have further insulation because unless u soundproof the wheel arches 1st, the road noise will still get in....

So... has anyone pasted soundproofing mats such Dynamat or 3M Thinsulate to their wheel arches?
