Just had this Idea...

aging e46's and perhaps some 36's would know that your interior trims have a rubber coating that starts to peel after awhile and looks like a mangy dog.. I've managed to diy a soulution, sand paper the rubber off and spray it flat black. No more peeling !!! However I've only done this for my euro tray. and not the entire center console etc and arm rests.

I'm proposing a meetup diy day, where we help each other remove the trims, sand, and spray it to have a renewed look.

Cost of the day should not be very little.. some sand paper, perhaps primer, and a few cans of black paint and some screw drivers.

Perhaps a 15 or 20 nominal fee will be charged for the supplies and the remainder of the funds go towards a BBQ!

No dates set yet.... nor location. If anyone is kind enough to suggest, or to volunteer...

Remove the sliding cover before spraying. Not sure if the paint will stay on the cover with all the opening/closing/folding of the cover.

we can do the bbq on the same day too!

btw any way to rejuvenate the external door trims? mine kena bang by too many aunties driving big mercs. better the trims than the doors right?

if you are doing the door trims, buy lots of clips, the buggers always break. they are about $1 each, i buy in bags of ten!! But for door trims, do it in gloss not flat paint, drying time shouldnt be long if the sun is out. The centre console i can understand in flat black. But there goes that armour all shine! Why not colour code your trims, got blue car, paint the door trims the same colour blue.

phil, where to get the bloody clips?

went to PML like once every quarter to complain and get them replaced when my car was still under warranty. so much so that i think they glued the damn things on.

have to DIY now lah...

Eng Soon have them. I go there about every 6 weeks, my back door one keeps falling of cause the girls slam my door all the time. You must have wood trims is it? Cause when i had stock black ones on, they never fell off, very light

have the crappy plastic ones with the the lamination looking like my dog's breakfast now. scratch until terok lah.

the customer service people in PML got so used to seeing me - only had to turn up at the counter and they knew what i needed without me saying a word.

gave them a tough time cos i was going on and on about the lousy clips - why don't they find out some way to improve the damn things?

then it came to me - more $$$... they charged me once (about $70) and i kicked up a huge ruckus about it not being my fault that they have a short lifespan.

then they blamed me and asked me not to park my car in the sun so often **middle finger**

now u know why i would rather stab myself with a blunt knife than send my car to PML :furious:

hey, any idea how many clips a full set of trims would need? might as well replace all of them at the same time.

do the dashboard trims use the same clips?

dashboard clips are slightly bigger and are orange colour. I think each door has 5 clips. Could be 4, i forget. One of mine broke the other day, i have to fix it when i can be bothered, i will let you know how many clips it has then. I think the dashboard ones wont break.

the e46ers have been meeting up quite regularly. how about we make it a bit more productive the next time?
