Any idea on prices?
Price wise, I'm not very sure.
But what I know is that, you will not enjoy the 3rd year warranty by PML. And, PML won't be informed about any recal campaign for your car. The factory only inform the country of original sales, which is where you brought in the car from.

Re: BMW parallel importers

I do believe you have a 2 year warranty offered by BMW AG

Re: BMW parallel importers

i think its about 10k cheaper than those from pml.. this is wat i know from my car search about 1yr back. Saw one... the speed meter was in mph, no electric seats... cant remember much else.

and you don't get it in tropical spec too.

Re: BMW parallel importers

LOL, you'll get heated seats and heated steering wheel

Re: BMW parallel importers

No la.... please dont scare him. My car was originally parallel imported in and it's way better than what PML offers! To name you a few...

1) Electric Sports Seat
2) Sunroof
3) CD headset instead of your tape deck (who uses cassette anymore anyway!)
4) Original BMW reverse sensors

and NO... there were NO heated seats or steering wheels!!!

Arsony
Topaz Blue NOT heated ....

That is not true.

All is required is that u have to drive to PML and register your car with them, giving them your chassis number and they will have a record of your car in Singapore.

All BMW cars are given a 2 years unlimited mileage warranty. The ir 3rd year warranty u get from PML is by an external insurance co. and if u read carefully, it's a limited warranty.

PML is obligated to inform you when there is a recall by factory. That is made mandatory for safety aspect, but only if u have registered with them.

Warranty wise, u might have to pay upfront first before claiming back from factory.

As for specification, it all depends on the person ordering the car.

Cheers.

I wonder if similar thing can be enjoyed when buying Porsche....

well, as i said, P-I cars don't the the 3RD year warranty.
As for the recall campaign, what I understood was that, the factory will notify the original country of sale, which could be anywhere else but Singapore.
By registering with PML does not do anything to the factory's record, and the factory might not be really bothered to entertain any updates from all the other countries.
So the list the PML gets would naturally not include those P-I cars.
I was told that the buyer need to go back to his importor to sought for such info, which i think is quite lei-che.

these were hear-say for me, any bro can verify?

Re: BMW parallel importers

Hi all,

I had also considered buying parallel import before buying my ride a few years ago. It is not true that you get the wrongs specs, it all depends on the importer. In fact you could spec the car any way you want (visit BMW South Africa website and you know how easy). Options can be things like: with/without sunroof, debadging, 3-point seat belt rear, 3rd head rest rear, smoker/non-smoker package, Business CD (vs radio), alarm, rain sensors, light sensors, rims, type of leather, color (yes you can get jet black instead of metallic black) and of course option for tropical climate.

In fact PML sort of standardize the cars, e.g. 320 all come with same specs, 330 all comes with same specs, etc ... Not doing justice to the brand. BMW is well know for allowing customers to pick their choice of options. Try asking for anything different (e.g. Jet black paint work), they will either give you a blank stare or be very disinterested (takes time before commission comes in). The leadtime I got quoted for jet black paint work for the 320 was "at least 5 months".

I also feel that warranty issues are over rated, my warranty just expired after 3 years of "religious" service with PML. Looking back, there were long waitings in the lounge, poor service encounters, (a classic case was when I had a flat battery in a car park. The emergency team have no one available and had to send a tow truck. I waited 2 hours before this 20ft truck that actual "transport" the entire car, send me back to my house, all the neighbours looking, damn maloo for both me and BMW man ... Then the tech came 3 hours after I reach home to change the battery. AAS could have done it in 20 mins, I know...). Looking back, with/without warranty=> no difference.

And worst part is anything that is costly and requiring replacement are so call "wear and tear" parts which I have to pay.... Well perhaps it's because the E46 was already very refine when I bought it ... But I do know that I would be a happier owner if I get to pick my options as a rightful paying customer and not have some people pick my "options" for me...

maybe things have changed these days, just my 2 cents ..

Yes. Curio abt this as well. When quoted on a PI 997 2 weeks ago , was told that I need to pay $2400 to register with Stuttgart so that they will honour the warranty.

Buddenn...friend told me that they'll warranty the car. But you will not get any priority. I.e. to say should a porsche owner who bought from stuttgart come in with a problem, your PI porsche will be sequenced behind him. *or something to this effect*

I've yet to find out enough really. BorisRS?

Are there many other reliable porsche workshops besides Stuttgart?
