I currently own a 1999 BMW 523i E39 m-sport that I want to upgrade as it doesn’t suit my needs anymore.
I’m after a sporty station wagon that can tow 2000kg or more and seat 5 people. I also want it to have self leveling suspension which is one of the things missing in mine. I also want the engine to be powerful enough to handle towing without struggling.
I only drive about 4-6000 km per year and am therefore looking at a petrol engine as my first option.
The four options I’ve researched so far are the BMW F11, Audi A6, Volvo V90 and Mercedes E-class. The V90 is a bit above my budget at the moment and there’s something about the design of the Mercedes I don’t like. I’m therefore thinking BMW or Audi unless you guys have any additional alternatives? The Mercedes isn’t completely ruled out yet though in case it’s the better option overall. I’m also after something newer more luxurious than my current E3
Anyone here that have experience with these or have other alternatives I should look into?
I’ve also thought about a 540i E39 touring but feel like it will be hard to find a good rust free one here in Sweden.
My budget allows for a 2010-2014 BMW or 2012-2014 A6 or thereabouts depending on spec.
I’d also appreciate as many details as possible regarding what to look out for, which engine to get, things I should and shouldn’t have spec wise in regards to reliability etc as I want a car that’s as reliable as possible.
