BMW E90 320i charging alternator bearing sounding

Hi

My car still got 1 year to go. So not looking to change the whole charging alternator if possible.

Recently got bearing sound from the charging alternator. Issit possible to get a workshop to just change the bearing or have to change complete? Whats the estimate cost for this?

Very 'pie say' to drive the car with the bearing sounding and ppl outside can hear. ha... But inside car close door cannot hear the sound. Still like to get it fixed to enjoy the last 1 year.

anyone can advice the solution?

you mean the engine alternator? if got poblem just change the whole alternator. It will go no warning and die completely. Cost of alternate is around 450 labour is around 100. Don't save cost to give you headache. If it dies 1/2 year down the road, you still have to change. LPPL.

So my advise is got problem change, or try getting a second hand one.

Alvinado made a good point, better to change just in case.

Try site sponsors such as Propel Auto Parts who sells 2nd hand parts to save $ since only have 1 year to go.

Its just the bearing of the alternator giving sound. The alternator is still charging the car......

No fire without flame, if the bearing has worn out, then there might be some other issues. My e90 alternator was working fine until one day it decided to die, no warning.

mine gave a batt sym alarm, forgotten the error code. happened during morning start up, drove for afew mins, error went off.

that went off for a few days, then one day everything just went dead. tolled to workshop, change alternator. thought error went off could save some money but ended paid extra on toll service.
